He woke up on the cemetery. It was night and he was all alone. Carefully he touched his chest but there was nothing. He remembered the fight and the pain and then nothing. But he was back so maybe the rumors were true that the colt could not kill everything? And after all he wasn't just any demon.
Azazel got up. Judging by the pain in his back he must have lain here for some time. The Devil's Gate was closed but that wasn't important. What was important was that Dean had made the deal. Alastair would be happy to have another Winchester to work on. Eventually one of them would break and Lillith could free Lucifer. Azazel smiled. Everything worked according to plan.
For a moment he thought about what to do next. His work was done. So go back to hell and wait for destiny to fulfill itself? Or check on the Winchesters? Curiosity got the best of him. He concentrated to focus on Sam. The demon blood should make it easy to find him.
But there was nothing.
That was weird. Was Sam dead? That couldn't be! There were clear orders to keep away from Sam. Dean had to go down. Azazel wondered how much time had passed. Maybe his first guess that it had been a few hours was wrong. So maybe days? He had to find out what had happened while he was out. And he had to find Sam.
The first demon Azazel found just stared at him with wide eyes. "You're ... That can't ... I thought ... He'll be ...," he stammered and vanished. Azazel couldn't help but smile. He liked the reputation he had especially among the lesser demons. Made it easier to control them. The second one took him some time to find. "Winchesters? We try to keep away from them," he said. "They have a record with demons." So they are still alive, Azazel thought relieved. "I don't know where they are. But you should try Kansas that's where they've been seen the most lately." Azazel nodded. That at least narrowed it down to one state.
Getting to Kansas was a matter of seconds but finding the brothers took nearly a day. Finally he had met a demon with a fresh lead. The Impala in the parking lot told him that he had found the right motel. With a blast he threw the door open.
The brothers were on their feet in an instand, guns in their hands.
Azazel had planned on an impressive entrance, scare them a little. But seeing the Winchesters made him stop dead. They looked different, older. They stared at him with the same surprise he felt and slowly lowered their useless guns. "Yellow Eyes?" Dean asked disbelieving.
"Yes," he said with new found certainty. With an evil smile Azazel entered the room. "There are five things in creation that gun can't kill and ..."
"You're not one of them," Sam interrupted him more curious than scared. "Dean killed you. So who brought you back?"
For a moment Azazel was distracted. But he had been surprised last night, too. So maybe Sam was right and he had been brought back to life. "Lilith did" he answered.
"Lilith is dead," Dean said a little bored.
Azazel couldn't help but swallow. Lilith dead could only mean that ... "Lucifer. He ..."
"Trapped in a different universe," Sam said before Azazel could even start the sentence.
"And that's exactly why I'm here. You will help me free Lucifer."
"No!" Azazel felt the power before he heard the word and turned around. The angel wasn't what really surprised him. It was the nephilim at his side. "We will not do that," the boy said. An angry stare of him made Azazel fly across the room. He felt the heat rising and with a scream he burst into flames.
