Home for the Holidays

Nymphadora sat in the middle of the Great Hall feeling so depressed. Her hair which was normally spiked and bright pink was a tangled mousy brown mess that fell just below her shoulders. She looked a lot like her mother when she was this way and it didn't make her feel any better. She missed her parents dearly, yes she was sixteen and she had been going to Hogwarts for six years, but it was just one of those days where she yearned to have one of her father's big hugs, or one of her mother's well cooked meals.

"Tonks are you going to come play quidditch with us." She looked up and saw Trevor McKinley wearing a ridiculous moose hat. A tear feel from her eye; her dad wore a hat like that around Christmas time. "Is everything ok Tonks you don't look like a faerie today?" That was when it was too much for her and she jumped out of her seat running for the kitchens. Her mother called her a faerie all the time because of her hair color. She reached the common room and ran right into her room. It was empty as most people were still in breakfast and this made her happy. Right now she just needed to be alone.

Only 12 more days till I get to go home.

That thought was the only thing that ran through her head as she sobbed into her pillow.

The day had finally arrived for Nymphadora to go home. It was Christmas holiday and everyone was relieved to see their parents some because they wanted presents, and others because they truly missed them. Nymphadora was definitely in the latter group. She ran into her father's arms and her hair flared into the familiar bright pink spikes everyone was used to. Ted looked down at his daughter in surprise, but instead of saying anything it was Andromeda, her mother that spoke up.

"Honey is something wrong?" Nymphadora just laughed and gave her mother a hug as well.

"No it's just nice to see you guys I missed you so much." Both Ted and Andromeda chuckled and they started outside to their car. For some strange reason Ted insisted on driving the muggle contraption everywhere neither Nymphadora nor Andromeda understood it. They all piled into the car and as they backed out Andromeda turned back to her daughter.

"I convinced your father not to wear that stupid hat as well."

"I like that hat Dromeda I don't know what the big issue is with it." Nymphadora snickered in the backseat at the thought of the moose hat she had been crying about just 12 days ago. It was nice to see her parents again, and they were acting normal.

Mum yells at dad for his childish behavior, and he complies only because she gives him the look.

The look was Andromeda's famous glare that would make anyone listen to her. The car screeched to a halt as they entered the driveway. Ted grabbed Nymphadora's trunk out of the back and Andromeda struggled with her keys trying to find the house one.

"Mum just use magic." Andromeda looked up and nodded.

"I've been around muggles to long" she said and grabbed her wand out of her cloak. After muttering the simple first year spell they entered the house and settled inside.

"So how was your term honey?" Ted asked as they all settled around the fireplace.

"It was good dad did you guys manage without me."

"Oh we managed fine my faerie, we managed fine." At the sound of her mother saying her nickname Nymphadora relaxed further into the lounge chair she was seated in. Between her father's comedy and her mother's care she couldn't imagine being anywhere else in the world but home.
