One is enough
Sara was washing the dishes and found herself singing without even realizing it. Lately, everything seemed so full of hope. She couldn't even remember how it felt to be sad and overwhelmed by ghosts, even though that wasn't so long ago. Through the kitchen window, she saw Grissom in the garden, knees on the ground, captivated by something. Possibly a bug. Most definitely a bug.
He was just like a little boy. Eager smiles and laughter, and it never failed to make her giggle. She knew it was only a matter of time until he came running through the kitchen door and yell like he discovered a whole new...
"Say 'hello' to my little friend!" Grissom raised a jar with something disturbingly familiar inside.
Sara asked frowning, "I-Is... is that a...?"
"Latrodectus hesperus." He looked like a kid who found the prize in a cereal box. A very crunchy one.
"Why are you keeping it? Aren't Black Widows extremely dangerous? I heard their venom was more powerful than rattlesnakes. Than cobras, even."
"Yes they are. But fatal cases are very rare." Without realizing it, Grissom slipped into lecture mode. "The actual amount injected is very small in volume and when the venom is diffused throughout the body it usually doesn't amount to a fatal dose, though it can produce the very unpleasant symptoms of latrodectism: severe cramps, nausea, tachycardia and sometimes priapism."
"Oh really?" She raised an eyebrow, knowing exactly what priapism was.
"Actually, Sara, is not a pleasant experience."
"Cite your source," She smiled tantalizingly.
"Journal of Arachnology, 2003."
"You are sooo bluffing, Gilbert."
"I am not. After more than four hours of sustained erection, it can even lead to ischemia, impotence or gangrene."
"Now you are just being gross."
"Am I?"
Sara gave a long look at his naive face and then, without any warning, kissed him.
He stayed stiff for a moment, but then responded. It was soft at first, very gentle. And then the kiss deepened. Their mouths fully open playing with each others' tongues. Wet, sloppy. Primitive.
Sara always brought his dormant instinctive side to the surface. She had such a power over him, but he would never confess it.
She pulled him closer and he tightened his grip.
"Now I understand why you want to keep this friend of yours," She smiled: a wide cute gap-toothed smile.
He also smiled, but she could still see the predatory look in his dark blue eyes.
"Why would I want a spider, when I have you?" He kissed her again, this time with passion. After a while she slightly moved away.
"You are such a geek, Gilbert."
"So are you, honey."
"Yeah, but I would never say something like that."
"Cheesy, uh?"
"AND geeky."
"I thought you liked geeky?" He crooked his mouth smugly, still holding her gently.
She just laughed as an answer and let go of his embrace. "Just keep that one safely away. One widow is enough".
"Yes, dear." He couldn't help to look at his ring finger and smile.
