On most days as clear as this one you can hear the sounds of the train whistles though our little town, but today would be the day my life changed forever.

I laced up my shoes as fast I can and ran down to the dock of my town, Jubilant Falls, known for the waterfalls on the island and for the people who are always as bright as the day. My name is Shiro. I am 15 and I am starting my Pokémon journey with my best friend, Sammy, who is just arriving at the train station from her previous journey.

I raced down the dock to catch the first boat that's heading for Moonlight Station. I ran for about 10 minutes before departure, hoping to catch up to Sammy, who was waiting at the train station. I finally made it to the station but I noticed there was no one there. As I am looking around I get the feeling I'm being watched and I turn to where the sensation is coming from. There was no one there, but the feeling then comes back and before I know it, I was face-down on the floor with a boot on my back.

All I heard was a voice. "If I were actually out to kill you, you'd be dead by now."

When I look up, I see Sammy smiling. We made our way back to Jubilant Falls and headed for the Pokémon laboratory so I can get my very first Pokémon. I walked into the lab and exclaimed, "Hey, Prof. Tsu—" But before I could finish I was knocked out cold. About two hours later regain my consciousness and I heard a lady's voice.

"Next time, don't walk in her like that. I could've killed you." I in that moment met probably the scariest yet sweetest woman in the whole world: Professor Tsubaki. She then reached for a cylindrical case which was propped up next her, and then handed it to me.

"After several hours of close examination, we have matched the right Pokémon for you. Once you open the case you will find a Pokéball inside, holding the partner which will accompany on your journey." Professor explained. With my heart racing and pounding with excitement I reached inside the case and pulled out the Pokéball. I threw it up into the air and called out my new friend. After the blinding light flashed before my eyes, I saw my partner and made noises of excitement. My new friend was a Skorupi!

The fun didn't last for long, though. In an instant the room was filled with mocking laughter. Oh no. Much to my dismay, the condescending chortling came from none other than my life-long rival, Fabio.

"Of course, a pathetic little Pokémon would be appointed to a pathetic little boy." He chuckled obnoxiously.

"What you doing here Fabio?" I asked angrily.

"Professor Tsubaki said for me to stop by today, and when I saw you walk in I couldn't help but to stand watch you receive your pathetic Pokémon." He replied with just as much spite.

"Now children, there is no need to fight. No Pokémon is pathetic; each and every one is unique and strong in their own way." Professor Tsubaki explained, trying to calm us. Her efforts were in vain, however, because I wanted to settle this my way.

"I challenge you to a Pokémon Battle!" I pointed at Fabio, riled up for a fight.

"Pfft, I don't have time for pathetic weaklings like you. I'm off to Moonlight Station to challenge the first Gym Leader." He said coolly. "Later, loser." With that said, Fabio left the building. Sammy finally decided to chime in.

"Coincidentally, that's where we are headed to right now! You will get your chance." With a new confidence in me, Sammy and I took the first steps to a journey that would change our lives forever!
"Hopefully I don't almost get killed again"!
