POP!

Light looked over his shoulder to the panda-like detective who sat hunched in his chair, with his knees pulled up to his face and his hands resting on them, who was looking at eight computer screens at once. The young detective was chewing something, but Light figured it was just candy, so he turned back to his work.

POP!

Light turned back to the only other man in the room once again, scrutinizing him. He was certain that the noise was coming from L's direction, but he still couldn't figure out what it was. L never turned his focus from the screens, so Light turned back once again, thinking he was imagining it.

POP!

This time, Light had had enough. He got up and walked over to where the other detective was sitting, realizing that his face was now hidden by his massively tangled and filthy black hair. Light went up to L and turned his chair around forcibly, but then jumped approximately four feet back, shocked at what his eyes came in contact with.

There, on L's face, was a thin layer of light pink, sticky, sugary substance, some of which was stuck into the locks of L's hair that hung in his face. Only now fully understanding the scene he was taking in, Light gave L the most annoyed look he could muster, and then said accusingly, "L, what do you think you're doing?"

After having gathered some of the gum off of his face, breaking off the parts that he couldn't pull out of his hair, he said "Working. What else would I be doing?"

"Why are you chewing gum?" Light yelled back, frustrated by L's question-dodging.

"I found some with my candy and decided to try it. It is nice, but I can't decide if I like it or not. It is certainly sugary, but not for very long, and the stickiness is quite a problem…" L trailed off as he said this, beginning to try to tug the gum out of his hair without success.

"Hmmm…this substance…it could be removed by peanut butter, if I'm correct…" L mumbled to himself, getting up and walking, with his signature slouch, over to where his food stores were, and began rummaging through them. Light just stood there, following L with his eyes as he walked around the room, flabbergasted.

Pulling the peanut butter out, of which there was quite a lot as it didn't usually suit his taste, he grabbed some out with his fingers and glommed it onto the spots of his hair that were covered by the thin gummy film. He massaged it in, and then managed to get most of the gum out, or enough that he found it to be satisfactory. He put the peanut butter away, looked down at his hands and decided to lick the peanut butter off, despite its lack of sugar, and then walked back over to his chair, returning his attention to the monitors. Throughout this entire time, L never said anything to Light, and Light just stood there in his state of shock.

Light finally shook himself out of his trance, and realized that L had resumed his work once again, still chewing some of the gum. Despite how much he complained in his mind, and how odd he thought it was, he had made his decision. Nothing could be worse than this. Light walked over to L once again, to which L responded by facing him, and Light said flatly,

"Ryuzaki, stick to candy."
