Chapter 1: The Promise is Made

"Hurry up Sakura!"

A raven haired toddler with piercing onyx eyes was running across a lawn. A pink haired girl about his age was following slowly,"Sasuke! Wait! Ah!" She screamed as she tripped, her red sakura blossom dress getting wet and dirty. The boy named Sasuke stopped and turned around, running back to help his friend."Are you alright?" Sakura cried quietly as she wiped her eyes. Sasuke smiled and ruffled her hair, "Let's go, your mom is calling you." "M-my leg...it h-hurts t-t-to walk." Sakura eyes turned a pale pink, "Sasuke? What are you...?" Her voice trailed off, he had carried her onto his back. "Ready?" Sakura blushed as she shook her head, "No more crying, okay?" She nodded and smiled.

Sasuke Uchiha panted heavily as both 6 year olds stood in front her house. "Okay Sakura, time for you to go now." He put her down and helped her to the porch where her parents stood. "Sakura! Where were you? We're late now! Say good-bye to Sasuke." Her mother scolded her, her father smiled reassuringly, "Thank you Sasuke." Sakura limped over to Sasuke. "I'm sorry Sasuke-kun." Her eyes started to water up again, he grinned, "Hey, no more crying, remember? Its okay, you move to the United States. I promise, when you come back, I'll wait for you." "Sasu...Sasuke-kun. You promise? You aren't lying right?" She looked up, he wiped away her tears and held her tightly. "I promise, I, Uchiha Sasuke, will wait for you, Haruno Sakura." He kissed her cheek. "Go, your parents are waiting." He let go of her and pushed her encouragingly towards the moving van.

Dejectedly, she went, waving sadly. Sasuke, who tried to put a brave face, couldn't handle it. "Sakura!" She had gone into the van and sat near the window, opening it. He sniffed as tears fell from his face to the cement ground. He perked up as the moving van started to move, he ran after it, barely catching up to the window Sakura sat next to. "Sakura!!" "Sasuke?!" He held out his hand to her, she took it, but both hands slowly slipped away as the van gathered speed, leaving Sasuke in a dirt cloud, crying quietly. "I promise Sakura ...I will wait for you..."
