The original Tri-wizard tournament

Chapter 2

"Welcome to another year at Beauxbatons!" said Madame Antoinette. "I hope you will engage in your studies well." The dining hall was lined with statues of headmasters and headmistresses of the past, and the ceiling was arched with blue and white architecture. The students were robed in light blue, waiting for their headmistress to proceed.
"However, we are happy to announce that the first Tri-Wizard tournament will be held at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The tournament will consist of two champions from Beauxbatons, Hogwarts, and Durmstrang. Now we all want to have our champion win, don't we?" This announcement was greeted by cheers from the pale blue crowd.
"We will leave in one month for Hogwarts, located in England. Bon appetite!"
Elise Debussy watched her excited classmates with a bit of amusement. She had known about Tri-Wizard for a month now. Then again, she was a true seer. Unusually though, she couldn't see more. Her powers had been stripped by something greater than she.
"Elise, is something wrong with you?" said her friend, Michelle. Elise glared. "I sense you are going to be blunt all year. Am I right?" Michelle laughed.
"Now that's the Elise I know! So, the baguettes are much better than they were last years. We must have a new cook."
"Have you had any bouillabaisse? It's delicious!" piped up Leonard. He was a sixth year with purple streaks in his black hair. His eyes were a brilliant purple. He was stocky, and average height. He was a 14th century adolescent rebel.
"No, I haven't. I can't wait until classes start," said Elise as she sighed.
"Are you mad!" her friends chorused. "We can't wait until summer break!"
"It's not my fault I'm smarter and more knowing than you are!" she said, a small grin creeping up her face.
Classes began the next day. Elise had her FAVORITE class first- Divination. She easily got the highest marks in the school on this exam.
"Greetings, Mademoiselle Debussy," chimed Mme Incendi. "Did you have a good summer?"
"Of course Madame. Have fun without me?" The rest of the class filed in.
"Settle down, settle down. Now, today we will be reading the flames. Elise, will you explain further?"
"Fire reading is an ancient art that dates back to the times when humans knew only fire. It's primary function was to predict the weather, but it is now used for many things, from what you will do tomorrow, to solving murders. The art of fire seeing is one the most reliable forms and easy to learn."
"Thank you. Will you show the class?" Elise walked to the fire and concentrated, letting her eyes glaze over. Her mind knew nothing but the fire, she was in a rapt concentration, for she was now one with the fire in her mind's eye. She stared with a blank expression, oblivious to her surroundings. She had done this over a hundred times. She could sleep and fire read. She had actually done just that.
Suddenly, her mind cleared from the fog that had just entered it, and she gazed into the fire, searching. She saw a fleeting image of a lightning bolt striking toward the earth. Then she saw a castle, and the images stopped. She was lifted in the air, and thrown backwards in a great arc. "Elise!" shouted a voice, fading and unfamiliar, and Elise was still in a trance. She heard none of the commotion she was causing. Madame Incendi caught her with a hovering charm. "Innervate," she murmured, and Elise's eyes shot open in shock, not registering for moments. Her mouth opened and closed wordlessly. Her eyes shifted and focused on her beloved teacher. She spoke at last. "Why, Madame? Why can't I See?"
"Time will tell, child. Time will tell. But one thing is for sure. Strange forces are at work. For I cannot See either.
