Neji, despite once having torn her confidence to shreds, knows that deep inside, Hinata is anything but weak.
Even years after their fight, Neji hasn't stopped picking out her mistakes, her clumsy flaws, and her lack of physical strength. Now, however, he does it as he helps her train.
She has potential and that is no lie. Her eyes may not be able to surpass Neji's but other things about her very possibly can and already have.
They don't see this of course, the other Genin and Chuunin. They see her as shy, stuttering Hinata, and although she has mastered Byakugen to a decent extent, they still find her relatively weak.
Neji doesn't understand this though. Maybe that is because he has been seeing too much of her now, or an entirely different side of her, or both.
Or maybe he simply cannot forget what haunted him day and night not long after his first fight with her until he had finally come to terms with himself and accepted it as true.
Sometimes, he thinks it would have been easier on him if she had reciprocated the hatred and not had such a cool head and an open heart.
Because really, how could he deem someone who he had hated since the age of four 'weak' when all she ever gave him was love?
