I posted this on tumblr when I first found out about Lian not being in continuity anymore, and just. God, my fucking heart, guys.

He knows it's coming, and maybe that's what makes him hold on so tightly.

Lian clings to him, wet face pressed against his neck. His is equally wet, but he doesn't sob like her. "Da—daddy, daddy I'm—I'm scared—"

"I know," Roy whispers, crushing her to him, and yeah, maybe it's a bit too tight, but Lian doesn't complain. "Whas gon' happen?" She sobs, and the lips against his neck and cheek aren't like the ones he's experienced before. This isn't sexual, this is Lian saying good-bye.

Again, something in him mutters bitterly. I'm losing her again.

"It'll all be okay, Lian. I promise, you won't—you won't feel a thing. It won't hurt, none of it."

Her wet cheek presses against his, and he can feel the world heave, like it's breathing in, and when it lets out its next breath—

"I'll see you again, etai yazi. I love you."

-"Roy? Are you coming?"

The archer stares a minute longer at the school, before glancing back at Jason. The boy looks a bit uncomfortable, but it's probably because he's in the old neighbourhood. "Or you got a hot date with a pre-schooler?"

"Nah," Roy shakes his head, pulling on his cap. "Thought I saw someone I knew."
