A/N: So this came to me on Sunday when I heard somewhere the sentence "Why me?" and since I associate almost everything with Castle... I was writing this in my head for two days, but when I opened "Word" I was literally stuck. And that's where "Tears of an angel" helped - "little one, don't let go" was the perfect inspiration. There certainly is a backstory and I'm thinking about it but I don't know if I'll write it.
Enough is enough, I hope you like it :)
Disclaimer: I certainly don't own Castle... boy, if I did...

"Mommy?" – asked Lizzy, with her last strength, shivering in Kate's lap, even though she was covered with two or three blankets.

"Yes, sweetie?" – said Kate, the tears, so obvious in her voice.

She usually wouldn't allow herself to cry in front of Lizzy, and would've locked herself in her and Rick's bedroom, but now the little girl was laying in her lap and couldn't see her, so she just let the tears out. And that's why her eyes were red and puffy and her voice was almost down.

The person she loved the most in the world, apart from Rick, was going to be taken away from her again. And once again, she could do nothing about it.

"Wh-why me mommy… why do I have to go away from you and daddy and Lexi?" – The little kid was also starting to cry.

Kate suppressed a sob and just shook her head. How could she answer that? How could she tell a six year old that life isn't fair? How the hell could she respond to a question like that when even she didn't know the answer?
Beckett got lost in her thoughts and when Elizabeth didn't get a reply she said: "I know it's not nice to say things like that but…"

"Oh, honey"-cried out Kate, interrupting Lizzy, "You've got every. Single. Right to ask this. To be mad about this, to, to…" – She didn't manage to continue

The little girl realized she won't get answered so she simply said: "I'll tell grandma you love her and you miss her."

"You would do that for mommy?"
Lizzy nodded, and another shiver shook her body. Kate got another blanket to cover her daughter up, but then left it and instead laid down, next to her and hugged her. The shivers then stopped.

"Mommy?"
"Yeah, pumpkin?"
"Will you tell daddy and Lexi and grams that I love them too?"
Kate suppressed a sob, kissed Lizzy's forehead and said "I'm sure they already know that"
"Yeah… but will tell 'em anyway?"
"Sure, sweetie."
"I love you, mommy."
"I love you too, baby." – Kate was starting to cry again. "Are you sleepy?"
Lizzy nodded and Kate tucked her in. Then she buried her face in the little girl's hair.
"Stars shining bright above you, night breezes seem to whisper 'I love you,' birds singing in the sycamore tree, dream a little dream of me..."- sang Beckett, sobbing at every word, tears streaming down her face.
"Goodbye, my little star"-she cried out, "give grandma a hug from me"

She kissed Lizzy's forehead and silently got out of the room. There, outside the door, Castle was waiting for her, with his arms wide open.

"She's gone, Rick! Our baby's gone!" – she cried, collapsing in his arms. Rick was also crying and his eyes were read, too.
"Shh!" – he was trying to calm her down but he wanted to cry and scream and curse and swear….
Right now, they were both mad at everything and everyone…
The whole world was to blame that their little Elizabeth died in her mother's arms.
