"Elphie!" the ochre skinned boy called out, grabbing her arm
"Fiyero, I have a train to catch, what is it?" she asked cautiously
"I wanted to tell you that after this summer I have to go back to the Vinkus…" he hesitated "I have to go back and get married"
"Fiyero" she hugged him close; something unusual for her, "Fiyero, when I go to the Emerald City, I'm not coming back"
"Good luck, Fae" he pressed a gentle kiss to her temple before he turned and strode away quickly, He didn't want her to see his tears
I heard that you're settled down, that you've found a girl and you're married now. I heard all your dreams came true, guess she gave you things I didn't give to you.
*2 years later*
The diamond-skinned prince shoved his way through the crowded and stinking streets of the Emerald City, boasting all its romp and pomp and glory, to the chapel of Saint Glinda. When he noticed a hooded figure emerge from a nearby alley, was that a flash of green? Or was that just hopeful thinking?
"Elphie!" he shouted into the streets, her head whipped around. She pulled her hood farther over her head before stalking towards him.
"Yero?" she despised how hopeful she sounded
"Fae, it's been so long, how have you been?" he reached a hand toward her cheek but she flinched at the touch. She turned and ran before anything more could be said.
"What just happened?" Fiyero asked himself aloud
Old friend, why so shy? It's not like you to hold back, or hide from the light
I had been several months since she had seen him last but she had to know how he was doing, if he was truly happy. She paid the driver of the caravan she was riding with, an Oatsie something or other, and hesitantly walked up to the huge door of the castle known as Kiamo Ko. She slammed the knocker down; the noise rang out and frightened a few birds that were hiding in the nearby grasslands.
Fiyero was the one who opened the door. "Fae?" he was surprised, of course he was. She suddenly felt like an idiot.
Elphaba opened her mouth but she was at a loss for words. "Fiyero, I…I just wanted to tell you that…that it was never really over….for me" she stared down at her hands
I hate to turn up out of the blue, uninvited, but i couldn't stay away, I couldn't fight it, I had hoped you'd see my face and be reminded that for me it isn't over.
"All these years, Fae" he sighed.
"Who's at the door, Fi-Fi?" a beautiful blonde woman called from behind him holding an equally beautiful baby
"An old friend, I'll be done in a sec, Galinda" he turned to shoo his wife away, "Elphaba, I'm sorry, I hope the best for you. Take care of yourself"
Never mind I'll find someone like you, I wish nothing but the best for you, too.
"Fiyero wait!" she said as he turned to close the door. She gripped his shirt and desperately clung to his chest, "Don't forget me" she begged him as her voice cracked
"I'll remember," he promised
Don't forget me, I begged, 'I'll remember' you said
He closed the door. She slumped against it and let her tears flow freely. "Damnit!" she cursed herself
Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead
Fiyero walked back into his home to his awaiting wife and child. He had never realised before how much green was in his home. "I could never forget you, green girl" he whispered to himself
"What's that, dearest?" Galinda asked him
"Nothing" he sighed "nothing"
Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead
