I haven't updated anything in a very long time, but inspiration suddenly overtook me and I whipped this up when I was supposed to be studying. It's basically just A/P schmoop, but who doesn't love that?
Warmth
Padme woke abruptly in the night, the cool air caressing her naked body where the tangle of sheets on the bed left it exposed, sending an unpleasant shiver down her spine. Naboo was always chilly this time of year. She reached out her arm and searched the space next to her in bed. It was empty.
Padme woke up properly this time, sitting up and gently rubbing the remainders of sleep from her brown eyes. She frowned as she stared at the empty space next to her. Anakin had fallen asleep right there, exhausted but thoroughly satisfied from their night spent together after a month apart, his arm curled protectively around her waist.
Padme shivered again, gathering the cream sheets higher around her slim frame. She got up out of bed and searched the bedroom for her robe, but it was a futile effort. She decided she'd probably left it back on Coruscant – she'd packed hurriedly, eager to get to Naboo as fast as possible and make the most of her husband's week-long reprieve. Padme sighed. The kind of warmth she wanted was from Anakin, anyway. She wrapped a sheet loosely around herself, as she was a Senator after all and she thought she ought to retain some modesty, and padded down the long hallway to find him.
She spied a flickering orange light coming from the end of the hallway, indicating Anakin was in the sitting room and he'd lit a fresh fire in the fireplace. Padme ran down the hallway and into the cosily decorated sitting room, overcome with a strong desire to be near her husband and never separated. Anakin looked up from his place on the small sofa facing the fireplace and smiled at her as she stood in the doorway, the fire casting a warm flickering glow on his handsome features and bare torso.
"Angel," he greeted her softly with the familiar term of endearment. "You're awake".
Padme nodded and smiled at him. "I came to find you. I missed you," she said, walking softly over to her husband and sitting down next to him on the sofa.
Anakin pulled her gently onto his lap and wrapped his arms around her small frame. "You're cold," he noted in a murmur, and he planted a warm kiss on her shoulder before brushing back her dark curls and beginning to trail kisses up her neck. She gasped softly as he kissed the tender spot in the hollow just behind her ear lobe, and his lips curled in a small smile as she wrapped her arms tightly around his neck, the sheet covering her chest falling around her waist. She shivered again as her bare torso met the sudden drop in temperature, pulling herself tighter against Anakin's warm chest, letting his warmth soak through into her bones.
She felt his artificial hand running slowly through her curls and his flesh hand tracing the line of her spine. She turned her head up to meet his eyes and she looked deeply at him, absorbing his knowledge and his experiences and his love for her that he communicated to her through eyes alone. Their lips met in a soft kiss that Padme deepened, eliciting a moan from Anakin.
"I love you," he whispered, caressing Padme's cheek as she rested her head sleepily against his chest. "I love you with everything I have".
"I love you too," Padme replied softly, snuggling closer to him as she fell back to sleep, warm and content.
