Chapter One
The sound of heavy breathing and panting echoed off the richly adorned walls of Cross Academy as Yuuki Cross made her way through its halls, desperately searching for Kaname. The dorms appeared barren, triggering the sudden increase of trepidation that was felt as she called for Kaname, yearning for his presence.
"Kaname, where are you?"
Her heart pained every time he wasn't there for her. Kaname was her soulmate, her crush and one whom she relied on when times were difficult. He provided her a sanctuary for comfort and protection.
Yuuki finally reached the room which she was forbidden to enter. The delicately crafted golden handles of the door reflected in the moonlight, feeding the hallways with a mysterious atmosphere. Her palms were sweaty and her heart was pounding. Hard and fast. Many times had Kaname warned her not to enter this room but he never offered so much as an explanation why. Once again thoughts entered and left her mind as Yuuki engaged in her own battle, deciding whether to enter the room or not. She stood, staring intensely at the door before her instincts invaded her thoughts and manipulated her to swing the door open. Yuuki knew that Kaname was a vampire and perhaps it was the immense trust she bestowed upon him that betrayed her the moment the door had opened.
Amongst the number of corpses soaked in blood, stood Kaname, looking right at Yuuki as though he could read her mind. Her mind became blank as fear followed shock while images of blood and death sunk in, draining the life in her eyes. Blood was everywhere. It covered the walls, glistened the crowded crimson floor as well as Kaname, who did nothing to acknowledge her presence. There was nothing to say and nothing to question about. After all, Kaname was a vampire. It seemed as though a struggle had taken place, evident in the pain imprinted on the faces of those dead. Yuuki slowly and cautiously edged away from Kaname's gaze, forcing herself out of the room, burning the last bit of energy she had left to carry her away from the Kaname she did not know. There was only one more person she could trust and that – was Zero. However, no sooner had she reached the mouth of the flight of stairs, the vampire's lust caught up to her.
