Fly Me Away
Eyes of pale lavender glanced at her beloved king for a moment. Van's dark hair fell to his face, hiding a face grimacing in old memories, in pain. How she long to comfort him, to reassure him every thing will be fine.
But only one person could do such thing.
Hitomi.
She couldn't help the feelings of overwhelming grief and bitterness towards the girl of the mystic moon. Her grief was different from Van-sama. She wanted to her rival, her enemy, to come back for her beloved best friend despite how hard it was to admit it. But Hitomi couldn't and everyone was hurting from it, the most Van.
Merle knew Hitomi had captured the heart of the one she had desired so long. She could only try to love him as his best friend but she knew she couldn't. Being around him for so long, Merle knew for certain these feelings would only persisted.
Being his friend would kill her in the long run.
She had a fleeting thought to flee the palace compound and leave Fanelia forever. But where could she go? Van-sama cared for her enough to send his best troops after her once he found her missing.
A more urgent matter remained at hand. The outside would not treat a cat girl kindly. Cats were detested on Gain; treated worse then the peasant folks.
Shunned, despised.
Her eyes widen. Would she do that for him? For her beloved best friend? Yes, she would. His happiness was her happiness not matter what.
Tears crawled down her face as she took one last glance at Van before silently exiting. She went into the royal chambers. No maid was there; she could afford to search for the item without interruption. Merle painstakingly wrapped the item with an old flag.
Jumping out of the window, she landed softly on the floor. Merle ran to the woods.
The sky was pitch black except the luminescence of the full moon. As she slowly unwrapped the item, she couldn't help but feel a pain of guilt. But that was quickly squished by focusing on her task.
My love will only be a nuisance to you, Van. and watching you long after Hitomi will kill me in the end. I'm sorry, this'll be better. I love you. I always will love you.
With both hands tightly wrapped around the handle of her best friend's sword, she swiftly impaled herself.
She bit her mouth as she felt death overcoming her. Closing her eyes, she prayed for peace for Van.
Death took her.
