This was an idea I got as I was watching one of the last episodes in the Kyoto Arc, the one with the rainbow. I'm a huge fan of Aoshi/Misao, so I just had to write it.

The rain stopped.

She sighed. Even the rainbow that stretched across the sky could not cheer her. Once, she had hated the rain, and always loved it when the sun returned…

Don't worry Misao… The sun will come back.

How many times had he said that when she was young? How many times had he held her to stop her sobs? And now…

At least when it rained, she had an excuse to come here…

To see him…

She picked up the umbrellas next to her, still wet from the downpour. She squeezed her eyes shut and hugged them to her. Tears threatened to escape. Why did the rain have to stop? Why did the sun have to return? These were the times she got to see him… to talk with him…

Or rather, to talk to him, as he rarely answered.

Why was he avoiding everyone? Did he really think they blamed him for the death of their friends? It was not his fault. Did he truly think they had not forgiven him for going astray? Everyone did at some point. He had not done any lasting harm, and he had done a lot of good. Did he really think…?

Dammit. Why was he avoiding her?

She hugged the umbrellas to her as tightly as she would hug him if she ever had the chance, and ran off.

Only one thought crossed her mind.

If only the rain hadn't stopped…

***

The rain stopped.

He was brought back to the world by fact that the incessant pounding of water had ceased. He watched how quickly the sky returned to it's normal blue. In a few minutes, the only hint that there had been any rain was the sparkling of water on the ground…

And the rainbow that stretched across the sky.

Look Aoshi-sama. A rainbow. The sun is back.

She had always loved it when the rain stopped and she could see a rainbow.

Once again he was brought back to reality, this time by the sound of a foot on the path below him.

He was surprised, though he realized he shouldn't be, to see the subject of his thoughts running down the path two umbrellas clutched to her chest.

She had brought one for him.

He considered this. He had been avoiding everyone lately, but in particular, he had been avoiding her. He was afraid of how much he craved her company. He was afraid that she might crave his as well. He knew she did not blame him for his deeds. He knew she had forgiven him. But he had not yet forgiven himself. He was not worthy of her.

And yet… perhaps this time, he would have given in. Just this once. After all, it was she who came to see him.

The small part of his mind that he had always tried to suppress awoke, and made a wistful observation that, for once, the whole of him agreed with.

If only the rain had continued a bit longer…

…then we could have walked back together, and admired the rainbow.

AN: Right… this sucked. But don't flame. Constructive criticism only please. I want to know how to improve.

If you wish to flame, you may flame my other RK fic "I Choose… DARE". It's about teen RK characters playing Truth or Dare, and it's so stupid, it's beyond stupidity. It's simply idiocy. It sucks so much… I don't even know why I posted it.

By the way… don't use my other fic to flame this fic.

That made no sense at all probably.
