A/N: I wrote this a super long time ago on another website but decided to post it here. Let me know if it's alright haha

The battle had seized after hours of pain and fighting. All those lessons in Dumbledore's army had paid off for the most part, as Luna and many of her friends had minor injuries. Ginny had just left to find her family, hopefully thinking everyone was still alive and unhurt. Luna was alone in this. Well, in the sense that her father was not beside her, she was alone. All of her friends had left to aid their family and friends. And she was stuck waiting for the war to resume. She wondered where Harry went off to, hoping that he, Hermione, and Ron were unhurt as well and went to look for him but was stopped by a sound of a boy crying.

I guess you really did it this time
Left yourself in your warpath
Lost your balance on a tightrope
Lost your mind tryin' to get it back

She recognized him as Draco Malfoy, a slytherin, a death eater, and enemy of her friends. Luna did not know much about him only that his friend Pansy had always made fun of her and her mysterious customs, but from what she heard from her friends, he was someone not to mess with. However, what she saw in front of her was entirely different than what she expected.

"Are you alright?" Luna asked, trying to smile to comfort him.

He looked up at her , but didn't respond and put his head in his hands. She sat next to him and put a hand on his shoulders. Draco looked at her, baffled by her kindness

Did some things you can't speak of
But at night you live it all again
You wouldn't be shattered on the floor now
If only you would seen what you know now then

Luna sighed. "It's going to be okay. Whatever you did was in the past and you can change yourself. It's not too late." Draco nodded to her words and spoke.

"When I was younger, I thought that I'd do anything to be like my father. Now, I hate who I am and what I've done."

Wasn't it easier in your lunchbox days?

Always a bigger bed to crawl into
Wasn't it beautiful when you believed in everything
And everybody believed in you?

"Well, now you can go your own path." Luna grinned at him. Hopefully she was doing the right thing by talking to him and giving advice.

"I can't though. It's too late." He lifted up his sleeve to show the dark mark on his skin. "Do you know what this means? I'm a death eater! I can't just go against my family."

"You're right" Luna said. Draco raised an eyebrow, confused. "It's hard to go against family. But if it's the right thing in the end, you shouldn't be afraid to do it."

It's alright, just wait and see
Your string of lights is still bright to me
Oh, who you are is not where you've been
You're still an innocent

Draco smiled at her. Luna got up as she saw Neville in the distance, and a couple of other students, ready to fight again. "Wait." He stopped her from leaving. "What's your name?"

"Luna, Luna Lovegood."

I hope you remember
Today is never too late to be brand new

"Thanks, Luna"

"No problem, Draco."

Later, as the war resumed, Luna's words kept coming back to Draco's mind. He knew what he had to overcome. In the end, he and his mother and father had left the war scene. Draco had not gone against his family, and at the same time did not commit to actions he didn't want to. And that Loony Lovegood, well, Luna Lovegood, the one he always thought was strange and just another one of Potter's friends, had helped him cope through the hard times.

Lost your balance on a tightrope.
It's never too late to get it back.
