Christmas Under the Mistletoe

The galaxy would just have to wait. Atlantis was taking Christmas Eve off for the party of the year. Alcohol was flowing in the mess hall. There was an open bar of Zelenka's version of vodka, the Marines' beer, Athosian Ruus wine, and eggnog. A huge Christmas tree stood in front of the art deco window decked out in gold and red. Christmas music was piped in through the citywide And there was mistletoe.

If there was one thing, aside from warfare, that Marines could do up right was a party. Everything from a formal black tie ball to a kegger. And tonight was a little of both.

Jennifer dressed in the best - and only dress - that she brought to Atlantis for the men. Many of them had wives or sweethearts back home, but home was a million light years away. Literally. So, she danced and chatted with them. Most of the women were doing the same. They were far away from their husbands and sweethearts as well.

Jennifer's sweetheart wasn't far away. He was standing just across the room taking in the festivities with an amused look on his face. His jade colored eyes shone with laughter as he overheard Marines whisper and groan about the brutality of the next training session with Ronon since there were so many of them dancing with his girlfriend.

Her current partner was Lieutenant Coffman. He heard the talk as well, but figured if Doctor Keller was game, it couldn't go too bad for him. But still, that was Ronon standing over there. And he could be the scariest son-of-a-bitch he'd ever see. Coffman spun the pretty doctor around the room. "He isn't going to kill me for this, is he?"

Jenn smiled. "I think you're safe." At the end of the dance, Jenn smiled up and kissed his cheek. Just as she'd done with her other dance partners.

At the end of the evening, she made her way over to Ronon. "I've been dancing with everyone but the one I want to." Ronon wrapped her in his arms and they slowly swayed around the room.

I was pure wonder. She loved being in his arms. The lights, the music, the ornaments, everything just added to it. She had waited all night to dance with Ronon.

Nothing against her other partners, but they weren't Ronon.

And obviously, her other partners steered well clear of the mistletoe.

Ronon, however, danced their way to it. Often. And took his time before finally moving them away.

"You know, I've been to a few of these parties. And no one ever told me why couples are supposed to kiss beneath the mistletoe."

"Well, I'm not entirely sure. It has to do with luck I think. I've also heard that it increases fertility."

"Fertility, huh," Ronon smirked. "Are you sure that doesn't have something to do with all the kissing people are doing leading to other things?"

Jenn let her eyes grow wide and empty. "Do you mean to say kissing leads to other things?"

Ronon growled low. "You know very well they do."

Jenn quietly squeaked in anticipation. "Why don't you show me?"

Ronon practically dragged her out of the mess hall to show her just that.
