A Supernatural drabble

by mew-tsubaki

Note: The Supernatural cast doesn't belong to me, sadly. Season 8 just gives me feels all over the freakin' place. :L Read, review, and enjoy!

"Well, good for you."

Dean could say it with as tight a grin as he could manage, but Sam understood what his brother really meant. Dean was pissed. …maybe Dean had a right to be. "Welcome back," Sam mumbled, though he was fairly sure Dean didn't hear him.

As the next several hours limped on in silence between them at the cabin, Sam thought about the past year. Had it been so wrong, not to look for Dean? He'd explained it, hadn't he? He'd been all alone. Everyone was gone—hell, not even Cass had come back with Dean, so it's just the Winchester brothers versus the world. Again.

Besides, whatever happened to the promise they had made…damn. Years ago. Dean had mentioned it even today; Sam had kept the promise and not done anything stupid to hunt down a way to bring Dean back. Was that so bad?

Furthermore, it wasn't Sam's fault. He dies, he comes back. Dean makes a deal, goes to Hell, and comes back. Sam's body's taken over by Lucifer, he gets thrown into the cage, he comes back. Dean goes to Purgatory, he comes back. It wasn't Sam's fault.

Between them, they have a standing "Do Not Resuscitate" order which the world seems hell-bent on ignoring. So what next? Sam has to wonder if he goes next. (But not to worry; he'll be back. The Winchester brothers are hard as hell to kill.)

Sam just wished Dean would see it from his viewpoint. Though, judging by his rigid body language, Sam wasn't going to stand a chance if he raised the argument then and there. But what was there to say? "Sorry"? That wouldn't cut it, not with what Dean had just been through. "I'll look next time." Yeah, right. Not only would it give Dean the chance to accuse Sam of reneging on their promise, but it would also give Dean the chance to accuse Sam of giving in to their endless cycle of life and death. Saying anything meaningful right now was a lose-lose situation for Sam.

So he went with a classic baby step: "Want some dinner?"

At least Dean glanced his way.

:') I hate it when the boys are fighting… But watching the season 8 premiere again…URGH. I really do feel as though the boys die and come back a lot, though… -_-; Ah, well. And the three bits of dialogue are quotes from s8e1, btw.

Thanks for reading, and please review!
