This is just something I wrote at 11 o'clock last night, when I was tired, lonely, and a little creeped-out. I haven't spell-checked it, so please go easy on the spelling.

Ray stretched out lazily and yawned. He was getting tired at last. Cat naps duing the day were all well and good, but not when they left him still figuratively bright-eyed and bushy-tailed at two o'clock in the morning.

He blamed Kai, and training. And Hilary and Kenny of course, they were just as responsible for the regime that had left him draped over the nearest chair, fast asleep. But still. Not as ... interesting as Kai.

A thought struck him, and a small, feral smile crept onto his face. Getting up and stretching so vigorously he felt something click in his vertebrae, he headed for the porch where he knew the rest of the team would be sleeping. That was another reason why he was finding sleep impossible; it was incredibly hot. Sleeping while warm, yes, lovely, as much as possible, please. Sleeping while hot, no, not an option. He kept himself awake by thrashing from side to side, looking for a cool spot. Most unpleasant.

But, somehow, the rest of them had managed it. Even Kai. Ray allowed himself that little smirk again. He was finally going to do it.

He was finally going to see what Kai looked like while asleep.

Working his way through the tangled mess of sleeping bags on the wooden porch, Ray spotted his target, situated a little way away from the others. Reaching Kai's sleeping bag, he crouched down and took a good, long look at the boy's face.

Before, Ray had heard a sleeping Kai described in two main ways, albeit it by the least reliable sources in the world; fangirls and gossip columns. And those two ways had been:

1. Vulnerable.

2. Fierce.

Ha. No. They were wrong. He knew the truth.

Kai's facepaint was smeared slightly, giving the triangles rounded edges. Ray decided he quite liked them that way. He had never liked those triangles anyway. They always gave him the feeling that Kai was trying to hide behind them.

There was no special expression on his face, no indication of anger or fear.

He was just ... normal. His lips were turned downward at the corners, a slight change from his usual sarcastic smile, but nothing to write home about. And his eyes were shut - big deal. His eyes spent most of their time shut.

Maybe he did have a bit of a special expression on, though. It was a ... nothing expression. An expression of nothingness. Ray wanted to say peacefulness, to sugarcoat it into normality, but no, that was wrong. He looked around at the others, and saw the same expression on all their faces.

How odd. He stood up. Are we all the same, when we sleep, then? he wondered. Even you?

Even Kai?

He frowned and gave his head a brisk shake as he stood up.

Almost the same, but not quite, he decided. After all, he is Kai. A fully-fledged grin spread across his tanned face. He could never be the same as the rest of the team.

Because he's mine.

This is probably the shortest thing I've ever written. And pointless with it. But it feels very nice to get back into Kai/Ray again, even if it was only hinted - anyone who's kept up with my posting knows that I haven't posted anything really Kai/Ray for ages. I actually missed it!
