Angel
Sarah Mclachlan Songfic
Spend all your time waiting
for that second chance
for a break that would make it okay
there's always one reason
to feel not good enough
and it's hard at the end of the day
I need some distraction
oh beautiful release
memory seeps from my veins
let me be empty
and weightless and maybe
I'll find some peace tonight
Percy slipped in and out of sleep, and heard some noise around him.
"Angel? Where are you? What's going on?" he said groggily, his glasses slipping down his nose.
"Perce, please. Go back to sleep. Now, sleep, honey. Please." his wife's voice sounded from beside him.
She sounded rushed, but concerned.
'What's going on? Where are you going?"
"Out."
"Oh."
in the arms of an angel
fly away from here
from this dark cold hotel room
and the endlessness that you fear
you are pulled from the wreckage
of your silent reverie
you're in the arms of the angel
may you find some comfort there
Percy felt himself falling asleep again until he heard her voice.
"Percy?"
It was gentle, but firm.
"Yes, Angel?" he said softly, opening one eye to stare at her in alarm.
she was standing at the door, a suitcase in hand and their son Auguste resting on her hip.
She looked sad and regretful.
'What's going on, Angel? Where are you going?" he asked, and began to get up.
"Percy, don't. Please."
Percy automatically sat back down, but stared at her in wonder and fear in his eyes.
so tired of the straight line
and everywhere you turn
there's vultures and thieves at your back
and the storm keeps on twisting
you keep on building the lie
that you make up for all that you lack
it don't make no difference
escaping one last time
it's easier to believe in this sweet madness oh
this glorious sadness that brings me to my knees
"Percy, I'm leaving."
Percy could see for a moment, then when he recovered from his shock, he gave her a look of utter disbelief.
"What? Angel..."
"No, Perce. I can't live with this anymore. No more. No more late nights at the office, no more longing for you to be here and be a proper father. No more. I can't live like this."
"Angel, I didn't know you felt like that....I'll take some time off..."
"No, we couldn't afford that, Perce. Just....let me go. Let me go, P. I love you, I always will. Just let me go. I might come back, you never know. Just...let me have a break." she had tears in her eyes.
"But where are you going to go? Where can I reach you?"
"Don't try, honey. Just let us go. I'll contact you when I have news."
She gave him a sad smile, and then turned to pull her son and suitcase out the door.
Percy stared at it for a moment, then fell into a restless sleep, full of dreaming of the wife he had just lost, the son that he would never get to see grow up into the true red haired Weasley that he was. To the family that would never again have to deal with his devotion to his job.
That was their last goodbye.
in the arms of an angel

and the endlessness that you fear
you are pulled from the wreckage
of your silent reverie
