Fingers twitching and hearts racing faster than the speedster himself could run, Artemis and Wally sat at the kitchen table waiting for the phone to ring. Artemis played with her long blonde hair, while Wally stuffed a turkey sandwich down his throat, running across the living room of his tiny apartment.
"When is the realtor going to call?" Wally asked, still moving back and forth.
"Soon, Wally." Artemis answered with an annoyed tone of voice.
"When's soon?"
"Be patient." Artemis turned around and shot the speedster a look that instantly intimidated him in the way only Artemis could. He swallowed at sat down beside her at the table, staring at the phone.
"A watched pot never boils." He said.
"What?"
"Maybe a watched phone never rings?" Artemis rolled her eyes in response to Wally and got up from the table, heading toward Wally's fridge to grab a coke.
"As soon as we leave the phone's side, it's going to ring, you know." She stated.
"Yeah, I know." Wally sighed, putting his head on the table, continuing to munch on his half eaten sandwich. "I wish is would —"
RING
Wally's hand reached for the phone, his arm creating a blur of the tan from his skin tone and blue from the long-sleeved shirt he was wearing that cold winter afternoon.
"Hello?" He answered, enthused.
Artemis smacked Wally's arm, annoyed at him. "Put it on speaker phone, Wally!"
Wally shook his head, saying in his mind; "Oh yeah." He put the phone away from his ear and pressed the speaker button.
"Wally, Artemis?" A woman on the phone asked.
"Mmhmm." Artemis replied nodding.
"I have some bad news." The realtor told them. Artemis and Wally exchanged confused looks, both their hearts dropping to their stomachs. "There were two other offers." Artemis shut her eyes and her nose wrinkled in disappointment. Wally wrapped his arm around her. They really had their heart set on this place. "However…" The realtor continued. "I have some good news too."
Artemis rose her head a little, waiting for what seemed like forever for the realtor to say more. "They've decided to go with your offer."
"No, Wally. Over there." Artemis pointed over to the other side of the room. Wally sighed, moving the furniture, again.
"Why didn't you tell me you wanted this over there?"
"I did, Wally." Artemis argued. "You just didn't pay attention, as usual."
Wally stopped moving the furniture, put his hands on his hips and rose a brow at Artemis.
"You told me you wanted it over there."
"No, I didn't."
"Yes, you did."
"No, Wally." Artemis said, waking over to him, looking him in the eye. "I didn't."
Wally took a very deep breath, trying to hold his annoyance in. "Yes, Artemis. You did." Artemis grabbed his shoulder and stood on the balls of her feet. "No, I didn't."
She closed her eyes and softly kissed Wally's lips. Wally sighed when they broke it off. "Alright," he caved. "I'm wrong you're right."
