Forgotten
Bertha Jorkins had always been a scatter brained girl. She was silly, forgetful and scatty.
As an adult, she was no different. She worked under Ludo Bagman, in the Department of Magical Games and Sport. Her collegues - and Ludo, her boss, in particular - were often exasperated with her.
She forgot to sign the most important of documents on time, she didn't pass on messages until it was too late, and she misplaced everything when anyone needed it.
So through her flaws, no-one ever saw the real Bertha.
No-one, for instance, knew that Bertha had a deep liking for the head of department.
Ludo however, never payed Bertha the slightest bit of attention. Beyond work and getting things done, she was nothing but a scatterbrain who worked at the ministry - and many people thought she shouldn't be working there in the first place.
Due to her incompetance, when Bertha first went missing, not many people gave much of a care.
Ludo thought she'd just gone missing on her holiday to Albania.
After a few weeks he called for an inquiry into her whereabouts, due to the demand from other people.
But the truth was, after a short while, Bertha Jorkins became forgotten.
She would have hated to disappear into the background, but that was just what happened. After a while, they found a replacement for her at work, and since she had no family left the speak of, she was forgotten.
And Ludo never thought of Bertha again.
