He finally cornered him.
He was finally going to stop that monster, the one who he has spent years trying to find and bring to justice; ever since he became a bounty hunter he has dreamed of taking that bastard in.
That monster's name is Keeper. A dangerous criminal, known for bending others to his will in exchange for great power. That power being the energems, one of the rarest and most sought after artifacts in this universe. Once bonded to, the one who possesses an energem will be given power beyond imaginable. However, such power comes with a cost. The more the bonded uses that power, they will become slowly more corrupt and unstable, becoming very dangerous.
What did the bounty hunter want to do with those gems? Nothing other than to destroy them, to make sure no one will hold such power. He has seen what it has done to others, and has lost so much because of it.
The Bounty Hunter's name, is Sledge.
Sledge raced after Keeper in his ship to a newly discovered planet know as Earth. He knew Keeper's tricks and realized that if he let him slip away here, that another planet would fall into his control and there was no way Sledge was going to let that happen again. He commanded one of his Vivix to fire the lasers at Keeper's small escape pod, one hitting one of the thrusters, sending it into the planet's atmosphere, Sledge watching it burn up until it was no longer in view.
He sent down his trusted partner and friend Fury down to investigate, knowing that even if Keeper did not survive the crash, the energems did. Sledge sighed and laid back in his chair, exhausted from going after Keeper for so long. It was then he heard a voice he adored more than no other.
"Oh Sledge! How's my favorite Bounty Hunter in all the galaxy?'
That was none other than Poisandra, Sledge's Fiancee. He found her robbing a bank and arrested her; but her beauty and charm was enough for his hardened heart to go soft.
"Better than ever, I have finally cornered Keeper, and I sent Fury down to find the energems."
" Why would you send Fury to do such a task? Though I admire his strength, he certainly isn't very smart." Poisandra cooed as she rubbed Sledge's padded shoulders.
"I trust him to this task, I mean, what is he going to do? bring back a bomb?" He chucked to himself as heard heard the door open and Fury walk in, a capsule in his hand.
"Sledge, I could not find Keeper, I presume his body was burned to a crisp, but did find where he held the energems." Fury proclaimed as he handed Sledge the capsule.
"Good work Fury, I will send a search party in a few hours to be sure, but for now, lets destroy these once and for all." Sledge opened the capsule to suddenly hear a quiet sound.
beep…beep...beep
He looked down to see a countdown and a set of wires.
Oh, how he hated being right sometimes.
Sledge quickly tried to dispose of the bomb, but it was too late, there was a flash of bright light, and loud sound of screams and debris. Sledge hurried to the control panel, to see which parts of the ship have been damaged. Luckily, nothing was too damaged and would function properly. But there was one problem, all the asteroids he collected along the way were falling towards Earth.
Sledge could only watch in horror as the asteroids impacted the surface, knowing that so much life is gone. It was his fault…
No...it was Keeper's fault. Sledge knew that Keeper was still out there with the energems and had something planned.
And he was going to find out what.
