It had been a long, albeit fun day. It was far from over, however the children enjoying this extra long day, needed to gain back a little if their expended energy. The three lay on one of the small patches of grass that littered the islands here and there. It was midday.
"I would completely eat the spider. Egg salad is disgusting enough freshly made, let alone a month old." Riku answered an earlier question Sora had asked. They took it in turns on days like these, so ask and answer questions.
"Egg salad for sure. Spiders scare me." Kairi admitted. It was her turn. "If you could have any animal in the universe as a pet, what would it be?"
"Unicorn!"
"Unicorns are dumb. I would have a dragon." Riku countered Sora's answer with a seemingly better one. They always had to outdo each other.
"Whadd'ya mean unicorns are dumb? Dragons are idiotic of you ask me."
"How? They breathe fire for crying out loud! What does a unicorn do, Prance around majestically with a horn on its head? Get real."
"Hey they're good for all sorts of magical stuff. Besides, a unicorn would be far more entertaining then a dragon that burns stuff down all the time."
Kairi sighed. They were going to fight about this until the cows came home.
"…not"
"Would so!"
"You are such a…"
"STOP IT!" Kairi cried, not wanting a little fight to ruin their whole day, "Are you seriously having a fight over this? "
"I guess not." Sora offered.
"Yeah, cause I'm right. Besides Sora, unicorns, not even real." Riku laughed at his friend, and his silly way of believing he could have a mythical creature as a pet.
"Well technically Riku….neither are dragons." Kairi interjected, coming to Sora's defence a little.
Silence, and then.
"Shuddup Kairi." It was her turn to laugh.
They watched the clouds float by for a while. This was the way things should stay. Just the three of them. She had the whole summer planned out. In three days time, she was going to start building a raft, to see if they could sail away and have a really grand adventure together to find her home. They had talked about it before, but this summer they would actually do it.
"If you were to win a trip around the world for you and a friend, who would you bring." Kairi frowned, knowing Riku's question would result in another tiff. But she shrugged it off as the natural order of things between them.
Yeah. This was how things were supposed to be. Forever.
