Thick hail poured from the dark, angry sky. Every stone meant to hurt, to kill. The pain stabbed at her, daring her to fight back. Her body didn't want to. Her body wanted to give up right there. It was screaming for her to stop. Just lie down. Give in. This was death so close. So tangible. But the cold wind was so alive; it leant her some of its energy. Telling her she would live forever.
A cry rose in her throat, but erupted as laughter. Powerful laughter, that propelled her forward. Closer to safety, wherever that was.
The electric jabbing sensation on her back exhilarated her. Motivated her to move faster, faster, faster. Catch up to the storm. Keep time with the storm. Break free from the storm. The whoosh of the wind gave her strength. It sided with her– not its master, the storm. It hated the storm just as much as she did.
Lightning cracked right in front of her, illuminating the diamonds of ice in its path. A deafening explosion of thunder followed immediately. The cacophony of the hail and wind quieted, as if in awe of real sound.
She began breathing harder and deeper. In her nose, out her mouth. In, out, in, out, in, out. Running so fast, the wind in her favor. The hail against her. Hurting her. But still it was almost fueling her, transferring its power to her. She felt like she could fly. She laughed out loud. She wouldn't die that day. She couldn't die when she was invincible.
