A Tale of Friendship, the story of Poland and Lithuania
Chapter 1, Humble Beginnings (1444- )
It's a September of 1451, and the people rejoice for the birth of a new heir to the throne of Poland and Lithuania. This heir is a female one and her name is Anna. The King, Kazimierz Jagiellon, rules on both thrones, Poland and Lithuania.
A Union between both nations was formed by 1445. The Jagiellon dynasty is the ruling dynasty of Poland and Lithuania. Poland is a "stripe" lying beside the gigantic Lithuania. Between them is Poland's vassal Mazovia and below Poland is his march Moldavia. Under Poland is Hungary, one of Poland's rivals. On top of Poland is the Teutonic Orders, who lost 2 provinces to Poland during a war. So now, Poland has a port on the Baltic Sea. On top of Lithuania is the Livonian Order, former ally of the Teutonic Order before annulling their alliance during the same war. West of Poland is Silesia and Bohemia. Bohemia is the only ally of Poland, for now. Also it is in the Holy Roman Empire, rules by an emperor in Austria, for now. Across the Baltic Sea is Sweden, ruled over by Denmark. East of Lithuania is Muscovy, who just conquered some lands from Novgorod. Denmark also has a hold on a part of Novgorod's Karelia region.
The main goal of Poland and Lithuania is to destroy the Teutonic Order as well as the Livonian Order. The Teutonic Order were forced to release the free city of Danzig. This small nation however is also in Poland's target list.
After the first war against the Teutonic Order and Bohemia's war against Brandenburg, in which Poland and Lithuania joined in, peace was dominant in the kingdom and the duchy. It was kind of boring but it was still a time to prosper and entertain more people in the country. Still Poland and Lithuania have a fear: Muscovy and Denmark. Both nations started to expand and this could suggest a rise of power in the future. Trying to fend them of alone won't be easy, even if you are one of the most powerful nations in Eastern Europe and so only one thing can help them fend of those guys: a union. Which is why now Poland and Lithuania are in a union and therefore must try to become the most powerful nation in the area together.
On January 1452, Poland increases its stability. On August 26 1452, Crimea annexes parts of the Golden Horde, a steppe nomadic nation. On January 1453, Poznan became the seat of a new cardinal. This new cardinal is loyal to Poland. On April 10 1453, the first marketplace was built in Krakow. On August 16 1453, the Pope declared a crusade against the Ottomans. The crusade is orchestrated by Austria. On January 19 1454, the diplomatic annexation of Mazovia started. ON September 30 1454, the polish diplomat that worked on a spy network in the Livonian Order was expelled and numerous agents were arrested. However on October 6 1454, Poland fabricated a claim on one of the Livonian Order's province.
A new war will start.
