After everything that happened, with Xemnas and Kingdom Hearts and saving the worlds (again, for Sora) life just seemed to refuse to go back to normal.

At first it was small things, little events that didn't matter that much.

Like when Kairi went to that class on memory. The professor had been starting up the talk, and he said 'Memory is a very complex thing.' Without thinking, Kairi remarked 'You have no idea.'

Then, there was that time when Sora asked 'Sea Salt Ice Cream' when he was quite sure he had wanted Vanilla.

Small events on their own, yes, but put together, it was quite obvious something was going on.

That something was wrong

It spiraled down further and further from there, mistaken names, strange behaviors, and even stranger dreams, until Riku had no idea what he she call his friends anymore.

Sometimes, things were fine, Sora was his optimistic, driven outgoing self , and Kairi was her cheerful, strong and outgoing self.

But…

Other times Sora would suddenly not be himself. He'd be outgoing and driven, sure, but less optimistic and more irritable.

And other times Kairi would be strong and cheerful but withdrawn and quiet.

They switched back and forth, back and forth, each time sooner to the next.

Finally, one day, it was all over.

Sora switched, and he never switched back.

Kairi switched, and she never switched back.

Riku couldn't stand it, so he left to the darkness. Never to return.

His only explanation was a single sentence, on a smudged scrap of paper:

"They just w e r e n ' t t h e m s e l v e s."

"It's too bad about Riku, isn't it?"

"Well, what do you expect, losing his friends like that?"

"Good point. Where are Kairi and Sora, anyways?"

"The last I heard they were at the Destati Insane Asylum."

"A real tragedy, don't you think?"

"Yeah...did you see Luck and Chance yesterday?"

"Oh my gosh, yes! It was so cool-"

That is all there story turned out to be, a news story, a small tragedy, oh-so easy to forget.

And they lived unhappily ever after. The End
