He stood outside her room, arguing with himself. She could cook her own food, and could probably do a better job then he had done. Irritation rose as he found himself very close to just leaving and throwing the stupid thing away. She wouldn't know any different.
"Kyo?" The gentle voice broke him out of his internal debate as his cheeks flushed red. "Is…something wrong?" Tohru's sweet gaze met his, and he felt his face become hot.
"No!" He snapped, then immediately regretted it as she gave a small flinch.
"Oh." She said, a little confused. "Do you need something?"
Kyo gave a sigh, then gruffly shoved the item that was in his hand towards her.
"Here." He said, slightly less curt than before, and Tohru gave him an even more confused look.
"It's a rice ball." He continued, feeling silly for stating the obvious. "You've been studying for a really long time and I noticed you haven't taken a break or anything…" He trailed off, looking at the floor. "So, here." He said, continuing to hold out his hand as she took the rice ball.
"Did…" She began, taken off guard by the gesture. "You make this yourself?"
"Yeah!" He spat. "But it's not very good." He continued. "I just don't want you to get sick or anything… I hate making leek soup!" He huffed, causing her to giggle.
"Oh!" She exclaimed. "Well, thank you, Kyo." She smiled warmly at him.
"Yeah, yeah…just eat the damn thing already." He said, already walking down the hall to his own room.
She smiled at him again, then took a bite. It really was quite good. Then something took her by surprise as she took another bite. In the middle of the rice ball…was a plum.
