"What was that?"
Heads shook all around, not one soul brave enough to answer.
"Mermaid," Finally a voice spoke. "T'was a mermaid."
"Weren't no mermaid," Vehemently spoken. "T'ain't no such thang."
"Fish?" A question more than an answer.
More grumblings ensued, the answer dismissed. "Too big ter be a fish," A consensus achieved.
They leaned once more over the rail of the ship to stare down at the thing that was swimming off the port side.
A splash, a laugh floats upwards.
A human head finally appears.
"Elizabeth?" Her father stares.
"No, I am right here," Her voice chimes in.
"Then who?"
"Well… has anyone seen Jack?"
