Can You See Eponine?
The river, how deep and dark it seems,
Like my heart at the moment when Marius took that girl in his arms.
Monsieur, must you kill me like this? must you ask me to find your love,
When indeed i am still here, a simple girl who loves you?
And yet why i don't learn to stop, i'll never know,
It's only causing my life to be filled with more agony and woe.
My brother i never see, my sister is never seen,
My mother is dead and gone, and my father... well you know his story.
An outcast in her own house, what a life for a girl to live.
If there's anything i wouldn't give to be loved...
My life isn't all misery and suffering,
I speak with Marius on occassion, only he is blinded by that girl.
Doesn't he know there's a whole other world,
One without that girl and one with me?
If only that was the world he lived in,
If only he cared at all about me... his 'Ponine.
Even at those barricades he didn't see me,
I scaled up those walls, with the other students on the watch.
Yet the man I want to see is not even close to protecting me.
Was it a lucky shot or fate that sent that bullet into my heart?
Only when Death came to take me did Marius care.
Don't take me yet, Death!
I'm not ready to go... I must live a few happy moments,
To make up for a life time of heartache and woe.
Marius... you came to me at last! Marius! I knew you would come!
But now as the world becomes darker and as your lips press against mine for the first and last time,
I realize... you came too late...
