'Jealousy'
Gaara scowled as he looked towards the yellow haired, blue eyed, ninja before him, 'He's so lucky to have had… friends.'
Naruto had been the luckier of the two jinchuuriki and Gaara hated it. The two of them had lived very similar lifestyles (being an outcast from society because the two of them harbored tailed-beasts inside of them) and were very alone. Then, Naruto made one of his first true friends – Iruka. Gaara, on the other hand, had to kill one of his first true friends – his uncle, Yashamaru, who had attempted to kill Gaara.
Then, over the years, things just kept getting better and better (for Naruto) and worse and worse (for Gaara.) Naruto then befriended some kids at the academy, though they did pick on him for being a talent less student. While back in Sunagakure, Gaara remained a loner, his siblings too afraid to him to go near him, his teachers afraid they would be murdered while they stood, his classmates scared to death whenever he walked by them giving off an aura of murderous intent.
Then it was the start of the Chuunin Exams. Naruto, having made friends with his team members Sakura and Sasuke, was cheerful and happy, goofing around and smirking. Gaara couldn't stand his brother and sister on his team, saying that they were just 'pieces of flesh connected by blood'. The only thing he wanted to do was kill – the only thing that made him alive.
The two of them had just met face-to-face and Naruto had announced that 'the pain of loneliness… is out of this world, ne?' and said that the only reason why he didn't go into insanity was because of friends – something that Gaara had never known.
'And that is why he's the lucky one,' Gaara thought bitterly. He then blinked, his cool grey-sea green eyes filling with sorrow.
'If I had had friends, would I have been…
different?'
