Chapter 1
''C'mon Taytay were gonna be late!'' Riviana laughs as she pulls me down the stairs by the collar of my school shirt.
Im surprised I haven't fell yet...
As we reach the last step, I slip on my sister Talia's Barbie doll that she clearly decided she couldn't be bothered to put away last night.
''OUCH!'' I give a cry as I land slap bang on the wooden staircase.
Riviana trys not to giggle.
''That was your fault!'' I whine, picking my self up off the floor. I grab the Barbie doll, and charge into the living room,
from where I can hear the racous sound of laughter. I thrust the doll in my sisters face.
''You did this on purpose didn't you?''
''No, I swear I didn't!'' she mumbles, her hand covering her mouth, trying to stop herself from laughing.
I throw the doll hard onto her lap over her dressingown, and storm back into the hallway.
I sit back on the staircase, looking down at my watch. Where is he? Just then, I hear the front door creak noisely.
I sit bolt upright.
''Oooh, here he is, your knight in shining armour'' Riviana teases.
Our best friend/agony aunt Toby Niddleton walks through the doorway, hair shining in the sun, looking spit spot as always...
''Oh, no, I'm sorry Taylor, I was mistaken,'' says Riviana, filing her nails through gritted teeth, interupting my daydream... 'it's just Toby...''
I didn't care what Riviana said, Toby WAS my knight in shining armour. I'd fancied him since Kindergarten.
Suddenly, I hear Talia shout from the living room.
''Mom! Taylor's accused me of something I didn't do! She just threw the Barbie doll at me and I didn't even do anything!''
Great, she always has that tone of voice when talking to Mom. Mom babies her too much.
''Taylor! Stop being mean to your little sister!''
I groan, rolling my eyes.
''Don't moan at me young lady otherwise you won't be going to band this week! You know full well she's ill!''
She bustles past me with a breakfast tray piled high with diffrent varieties of pancakes:
lemon and sugar, nuttela chocolate spread, strawberries and cream shaped like a face. .. There is a
steaming mug of 'options mint madness' hot chocolate also on the tray.
Me, Riviana and Toby look at each other, then follow my Mother down the hallway back
into the living room, noses held high, taking in the smell, mouths watering in unison.
She slams the door in our faces before we even get a chance to slide a pancake each off of the tray.
I remember my Mom used to make me breakfasts like
that when I was ill. Now all I get is a bowl of slimy porridge, endless bowls of tomato soup and a thermometer shoved down
my throat every five seconds.
