This is a Zuko/Iroh fluf birthday present for crazyzukofangirl1280. Im not great at fluff but this is my best attempt.
This is what Iroh was really thinking during some of the importaint moments of Zuko's life. All real moments from episodes.
(The Storm (memory of Agni Ki)
When he saw his nephew's tear stained face begging for mercy he could only look away. He knew his brother and that this would not turn out well. The gasp from the crowd, and sound from fire broke his heart. But when he heard Zuko's scream, he was sure he was being burned as well.
(The Water bending Master (when Zuko's ship was blown up)
"ZUKO" Iroh yelled, hoping for a response. Hoping to see his nephew emerge from the ruble.
"Zuko" the yell was quieter, in mourning. Because there was no way his nephew made it out of the explosion, and Iroh lost his son, again.
(Avatar Day (when Zuko decides to leave)
Zuko set off on the ostrich-horse and Iroh stood, proud to have raised him to be on his own, but also sad because he might never see the only family he really has again. So Iroh silently packed up, and began to follow the young exile.
(Tales of Ba Sing Se (after the date)
"It was nice" and then the door slammed again. Iroh smiled to himself. Zuko finally got to spend a night as a teenager, and from the looks of it, he hadn't destroyed the city. Iroh decided he had to set the young fire bender up on another date soon.
(Lake Laogai (when Iroh walks in on The Blue Spirit)
When he saw the slim figure with the mask and broad swords Iroh knew what was going on and he couldn't say he was happy. But he tried to hold in a laugh as his nephew easily blew his cover and stuttered to give a plan. Because he know Zuko still had allot to learn.
(The Crossroads Of Destiny (when Iroh comes between his nephew and the avatar)
He wasn't mad at the young exile as he blocked the attacks from him and his sister, but he was disappointed. Even as disappointed as he was somewhere in his heart, he knew his nephew needed time, but he would figure out the right thing on his own.
(Sozins Comet (Zuko's apology)
He pulled his nephew into a hug, remembering the last time Zuko cried, and forgave him. Because Zuko did find his way. And he did it alone.
