Bella...

She was probably the funniest person/human he had ever met. She was also sweet and kind, and easily loved. Her constant blushing was something they had learned to love about her. Now, as he packed up his room, he couldn't help but think about what he and his family would really be leaving behind.

His relationship with her had gotten off to a rocky start. Mostly because of Rosalie, as she had refused to meet 'the human'. Emmett, however, had wanted to meet her desperately. Edward had gone on and on about her, almost in a dreamy state, and Emmett wanted to see what had his brother so whipped.

When Bella had come to the house for the first time, Rosalie refused to leave her room, and being her mate Emmett was obliged to stay in the room with her. They heard Edward playing the piano for the girl, and Rosalie looked at him with sad eyes. "His music is different," Rosalie whispered.

"I know," Emmett replied, "She's made it better."

Rosalie glared at him for a minute before turning to the window. "Even so," She muttered icily. "She's changed too much."

"But she's changed it for the better," Emmett retorted, fed up with his love's lamenting over nothing.

Just then they heard Edward and Bella walk past, Edward pointing out it was there room as he went. He was giving Bella a tour of the house. "How dare he?!" Rosalie shrieked, and Emmett prayed Bella hadn't heard; Edward certainly had. "He has told her our most precious secret, and now he is giving her a tour of our safe haven. He might as well hand her a set of keys and a book documenting our entire lives." They listened for a minute, and Rosalie growled again. "Now he is telling Carlisle's story. I told you."

"Carlisle gave him permission," Emmett said curtly, standing from his place on the bed and walking out of the room. He continued down the stairs, where Esme was sitting. She smiled at him as he walked outside.

Emmett strolled through the forest, fed up with Rosalie, fed up with not being able to meet the girl who had changed so much...

"Emmett!" A pixie voice sang. He turned. "There's going to be a thunder storm, and I want to show Bella how we play baseball."

It was at that desastorous game that Emmett finally met Bella. She was very sweet, and in every way Edward's perfect match. He couldn't wait to show off to his new little sister, and he could tell Edward felt the same.

But then the nomads came. Their game being the thing that made them change the course, Alice didn't see the vision until it was too late. Bella was whisked away to Arizona, taking the joyful, care free Edward with her. Almost instantaniously he went back to his moody self.

Rosalie saw the difference this time, and Emmett saw that she was finally beginning to see how good Bella was for the family. Unfortunately he could also see that this realisation didn't sway Rose's hatred for the girl at all. That didn't matter at the time though; Bella was in danger.

Only when they found Bella, bloody and broken, in the ballet studio, however, did they all realise how selfless she really was. Their opinion of her was strengthened even more when they watched the tape of the incident, as when she was having her skull, ribs and legs broken, all she could do was scream for Edward to keep safe.

Bella got better, and over time she became his little sister, the girl he needed to protect. But the thing that really warmed his heart was the fact he knew Bella loved him as if he really were her big brother.

Although that thought just made his current situation harder. He didn't think he could bear to leave his baby sister, so he couldn't imagine how this would affect the one who loved her most.
