Standing alone,
Cold and stern,
A single flower on a blood-stained field,
Facing darkness and despair
To save the life of one
Loved as a father.
Faithful beyond fear,
A life without hope defying death
For the love of a king.
Weeping silently,
Remaining firm,
With laughter ringing
As secrecy is cast aside,
The soldier called Dernhelm
Stood against the Shadow
To save him who was both
Uncle and king.
Dernhelm and Eowyn,
Soldier and sister's-daughter,
Served her lord till the end.
Hair gleaming in the rising sun,
Sea-grey eyes hard as the steel
Clutched in her slender hand,
She stood fair and terrible,
Beautiful and desperate,
Forsaken and Unaided
Save by a hobbit whose simple courage
Gave him strength beyond himself.
Together these two who were never meant
To see the horrors of battle
Gave all they had to defeat the Shadow.
Beautiful, cold shield-maiden
And simple, young hobbit
Served their king and Middle Earth,
Then fell into darkness
Until called forth
By another king and friend.
A/N- I really don't know anything much about writing poetry, so if it's horrible I'm sorry. Please tell me what you think though! Criticism is welcomed if it's constructive! Also, I took a few lines directly from the book, so I don't own those!! Thanks for reading and God bless!
