A/N: This is what I think would have happened if Lily had died instead of Bart. I seriously didn't appreciate Bart until after he died so I'm bummed. But how will the UES react to Lily Bass's death?

Gone

Serena watched as her mother left the dance floor to meet with Bart. Shaking her head she turned back to Dan and followed him back onto the floor so they could resume their dance. She saw Chuck and Blair holding each other closely. She caught Blair's eye and Blair smiled and Serena knew that they had finally done it. Maybe now she could get some peace from Chuck who was always asking her about Blair.

Serena watched Lexi and Aaron leave the ballroom and her life probably forever. Not that it bothered her very much. She had Dan and that was all she needed.

Being Chuck Bass, he took Blair up to 1812 where they spent much of the night talking. Mostly. Eventually they got on the subject of college and Yale and then one thing led to another. He is Chuck after all, no matter how reformed he may be. He knows how to make Blair hot for him just by talking about Yale. Of course he had no idea what would become of them once she went to Yale but he was determined to make it work with her because she was his all, his everything. The only something that had ever meant anything to him.

At about ten the next morning, Serena woke up next to Dan in her bedroom. They had managed to sneak in without Bart or Lily somehow hearing them. The knocking at the door became more persistent. "What?!" She put on a robe and stumbled sleepily to the door. "What, Eric?"

"It's mom. We need to get to the hospital right away. There's been an accident." After that sentence the rest of the day was a blur of cars and rushed explanations and tears.

Bart was more stoic than usual but he held Serena as she broke down at the news and nodded as he saw Dan attempt to sneak out of the penthouse. There were more important things to worry about than a boy coming out of Serena's bedroom. They rushed to the hospital but Lily was already gone. She had died almost as soon as she arrived. There was no hope.

Chuck arrived with Blair at about the same time as Serena and Eric and his father. Blair held onto Chuck as she cried for her best friend and her mother. Lily Bass was like a mother to Blair.

The Bass family made their way back to the Palace to a sad, deserted penthouse. The family's personal staff had all left on Bart's orders so he called for the room service staff to bring up dinner which no one really ate. They were all too shocked. Eric announced that he was going to bed and Serena followed him. For the first time in ten years they slept in the same bed, neither wanting to be alone.

Blair had excused herself hours before, to give the Basses their privacy. She flung herself onto Cyrus as soon as she found him and poured her sad little heart out to him. He could never replace her daddy but he was doing a damn good job as a stand-in. Eventually he led her to bed and stayed with her until he was sure she was asleep. Eleanor was busy at work for her new line, not even aware that one of her friends had been killed that morning.

The next day, Monday, wasn't any easier for any of them.
