Regrets
My first ever Eve fanfiction in the brand new Eve fanfiction archive! Whoo!
Writing Prompt) Write about a time you said something you regretted.
There's a lot of things Will has come to regret over the last few weeks.
Having a 'robo-girl' as Abe puts it living with them is exhausting at times. Will can't think of a single day since Eve came to stay that he hasn't been rushing about somewhere or Eve hadn't been doing something new and unexpected. It was fun - crazy as well, but a lot of fun.
Still, Will can't say he hasn't got regrets.
He knows he will always regret saying some things to Eve, seeing the fear in her eyes when he or his dad accidentally mentioned Katherine or taking her apart. Her eyes would widen and the look on her face was pure terror. Will hated to have to see her go through that. No one should have to go through that.
Still, maybe even worse was when she first arrived, her innocence and naivety in all that she experienced. She was so new to it all. Will remembers when he had warned her that she had to be careful or they would take her away. There was no fear back then, she didn't know to be scared. 'Would you come with me?' was the cheerful answer. Will remembers the simple smile on Eve's face. She had learnt so much since then. Experienced so much. Learnt to fear so much.
And that Protocol Zero thing that took Eve over for a while... when Will had had to confess to Eve that she was being controlled - like a machine. Her face had fallen and Will had felt instantly guilty. Eve hated the idea that she was just a machine, he knew. And that wasn't all she was - of course not. She was a person now. A real girl. Not quite normal, but he didn't think Lily was very normal anyway, so that didn't really matter.
So many little slips of the tongue. So many accidental reveals of what they might do to Eve if they ever, ever found out about her. Will fears that day like no other.
But one thing he'll never regret is taking Eve in. She's one of them now. One of the family. And she makes every day magical and exciting, whatever she's doing. No matter what.
