Adventurous Relationship
Crashing Strangers
Welcome to the fist chapter of my first story. This actually is a rewritten version of the first chapter. I noticed I made a lot of mistakes. I hope you like it.
Italics are thoughts by the way.
You have those days when everything is normal. But sometimes, when you expect it the least, just one tiny thing happens and it changes your whole life.
He woke up at bouncing sound above him. He tried to ignore by pulling the blanket over his head. The sound wouldn't stop and he got out of bed.
''Toothless! Stop it! I'm awake.'' He said sleepy.
Hiccup pushed the blankets of his body and sat up in bed. He stretched his arms an yawned. Toothless, a big black dragon, came in through the big hole in the roof. Hiccup looked at Toothless and Toothless just looked back.
"You're one crazy dragon, you know?" Toothless let his tongue hang out of his mouth. Hiccup smiled and shook his head while he swung his legs over the edge of his bed. He stood up and walked to a basket in the corner of the room. He opened it and reached for something in it. He grabbed some fish out of it and threw them to Toothless. An he immediately started to eat.
"You're acting like I never feed you." Hiccup said while walking to his side to adjust the saddle on his back. When Toothless was done eating he turned his head towards Hiccup as to say: "Are you done?"
"Do you want to take a flight, bud?" Toothless growled in response and Hiccup got on top of his back. He clicked his prosthetic locked and secured his safety belt.
"Well then, let's go." Toothless let out a tremendous roar as he took off.
''Well bud, thanks for waking up the entire village." Hiccup said laughing as they climbed the sky. Hiccup really enjoyed flying around in the morning sun. He looked around and could see how the sun just rose above the mountains. There was a magnificent blanket of pure white snow that covered the whole island. Apparently it had snowed last night, even if it was summer. It wasn't strange to sno on Berk, but not in the middle of summer. The snow and wind made it colder than Hiccup would have expected.
''It's actually pretty cold up here.'' He said shivering as he tried to keep himself warm. He looked at the dark clouds in front of them.
"It looks like it is going to snow soon. Toothless, could you please warm us up a bit?" he asked with chattering teeth. He felt how Toothless tensed under him and shot a plasma ball ahead of them. Seconds before the ball would explode he saw a silhouette in the sky nearing the ball of pure white plasma
"Look out!" Hiccup yelled at the silhouette he saw earlier, but it already was too late. The ball exploded and created a blinding light. Though it became warmer Hiccup couldn't see a thing. He tried to open his eyes to see what has happened to the silhouette but instead got hit by something in his chest with full force. The safety vest broke and his prosthetic broke in half. Before it could all register into his brain they where tumbling down. He didn't know where Toothless was, but without him he couldn't fly. He still couldn't see much but could hear the wind whizzing by and something what seemed like a desperate roar from Toothless. After a couple of seconds falling he had almost gained his sight back. He looked around and could see they were approaching the ground really fast. He also saw that the silhouette falling beside him. He noticed it actually was a boy maybe a little older than him. He suddenly felt how an arm graped his waist and was pulled along. It belonged to the boy who had opened his eyes. He could only see two ice-blue eyes. He didn't had any other time to look before they hit the snowy ground.
It was dark around him. Hiccup couldn't see a thing, but his eyes where open.
"Toothless!? Are you there bud!?"
He wanted to take a step, but noticed he wasn't touching the ground. He was floating but there was no water. He didn't know where he was.
"You have to help him, only you can save him." A low but gentle voice spoke to him. Hiccup thought his hart stopped beating when he heard the voice.
"Is someone there!?" No response. He looked around and this time could see some light. It was the moon who was shining above him. Then it disappeared and Hiccup could feel pain returning to his body.
It hurt everywhere. It felt like he had been crushed by a boulder. He tried to move but it only seemed to become worse. He opened his eyes and again couldn't see a thing. He thought he was still in the weird area floating around, but then his eyes adjusted to the dark and he could see it was night. Hiccup just laid there. Until he the thought came in he had to look for Toothless He sat up in in hurry but that only gave him a headache. He grabbed his head and tried to subdue the pain in his head. After the pain had decreased he looked around once more and saw the boy laying a couple of feet further. He was laying on his side in a pretty uncomfortable pose with his eyes closed and his mouth a little bit opened. Hiccup instantly wanted to walk to the boy to help him and stood up but almost immediately fell down again. He looked at his legs and saw half of his prosthetic was missing.
"Great, always nice to just have one leg." He mumbled to himself. With some struggle and lot's of pain he managed to drag himself over to the boy. He hadn't noticed until now that his hair was white. It actually looked pretty funny. He examined the face of the boy and noticed there were lots of cuts with dried blood on it. He felt his own face and could also feel some dry blood.
"This makes my face even prettier." He thought.
"Wake up. Come on, wake up." He shook the boy in an attempt to wake him, but soon discovered he wouldn't wake up soon. He continued examining the rest of the boys body. He wore a navy blue sweater, some brown pants and was holding on to some kind of stick. His pants only had a couple of little gaps in it, but his sweater was torn at lots of places. There even was blood on it. Hiccup tried to take a look at the wounds a saw one big cut on his side. He didn't know what to do to to help the boy. He didn't have any stuff with him except for his knife. He couldn't even walk to the village and get help. He could only sit and wait for help to come, if they would come. Hiccup grabbed his knife so he could defend himself when necessary. This would be a long night. At least it wasn't cold today. But hadn't the island been covered with snow earlier. Hiccup once again looked around and saw there wasn't any snow left. It had melted as soon as it had fallen. He laid down on his back and looked at the sky. He could see how the moon was shining upon them. He still remembered those words:
"Only you can save him"
"Hey kid. Are you okay?" Hiccup woke up because because of the pain someone was causing by shaking his shoulders. He suddenly came back to present, grabbed his knife and accidentally cut the person in front of him.
"Ouch! Why did you that!? I was only trying to help you!" The person let go of his shoulders and backed away while grabbing his arm. Hiccup looked at the person and saw it was the other boy and immediately felt very guilty in hurting him even more.
"I'm so sorry. I didn't meant to hurt you. You just scared me." Hiccup dropped his knife and wanted to walk over to the boy to help him but again fell down. The other boy looked at him questioning and then noticed his prosthetic and seemed to forget about his cut. Hiccup looked at the spot he just cut him and saw there was a new stain of blood forming on his sweater. The boy walked to him and apparently wanted to help him up. But instead of going up Hiccup tried to pull the other boy down. It took him by surprise as he actually came down pretty easy.
"Wooh, what are you doing?"
"I have to make sure you don't bleed to death." The boy opened his mouth to say something but closed it again and just watched what Hiccup was doing.
"This may sound weird you have to take your sweater of." The boy took of his sweater without further questioning. Underneath he whore a white shirt which he didn't need to take off for Hiccup to reach his the wound he created. Now he had removed his sweater Hiccup could see there where a lot of scratches and bruises on his body. Hiccup imagined that it would be hurting a lot but the boy was very good at hiding it. Hiccup examined the cut he had created. It wasn't a deadly cut, but it was deep.
"I'm so sorry I did this."
"It's okay, I scared you. It was a reflex. But what are you going to do now?"
"I have clean it, but since there isn't anything to clean it with I have to bandage it so the bleeding will at least stop."
"I don't want to be annoying or anything, but you don't have something to bandage with either." Hiccup thought for a couple of seconds and then grabbed his knife.
"You know I only wanted to state the fact, right? You don't have to kill me." The boy raised his arms in protection and Hiccup just shook his head.
"I'm not going to kill you, idiot. But if you keep moving like this I might be able to. I just am going to cut a piece of off my tunic to use as bandage." Hiccup explained while cutting his tunic. When he touched the boy's skin he felt the boy was really cold.
"Are you okay? You feel really cold. Do you want my coat?
"No, it;s okay. I usually have a low body temperature." Hiccup just continued and wrapped the bandage around the cut on the boy's arm and made sure it wouldn't fall off.
"You can put on your sweater again. I'm done bandaging." Jack looked at the bandage approvingly.
"Looks good." He said while putting his sweater back on. "Thank you, uhm..."
"What's wrong?"
"I don't know your name." He said while rising to his feet.
"I'm Hiccup. hiccup horrendous haddock the third." The boy let out a chuckle. "Yeah, that really is my name. I assume yours is better?"
"My name is...Jackson. Jackson Overland. You can just call me Jack. Nice to meet you." He reached for Hiccup to shake.
"That actually is cooler than mine. Big surprise." He said sarcastically.
"Haha, don't worry, I think it's cute." Hiccup looked at Jack and tried to conclude if he heard it right. "I mean cool." He must have had a weird expression because he recovered quickly.
"You know, that name reminds me of a story my mother told me once when I was little. It was about a boy named Jack Frost who was able to create ice and snow. I always wanted to meet him. That would be so cool." Hiccup thought back about the time his mother would tell him about this boy. It brought a sad smile to his face to memorize his mother.
"Is something wrong?" Jack asked him.
"No, no. It's nothing. Just an old memory"
"Okay, then let's get going." Jack turned around to walk away. Hiccup still sat on the ground and was waiting for Jack to notice he wasn't following. It didn't take long for him to notice.
"Hiccup why aren't you coming." He asked looking at him.
"Well, it doesn't matter how much I want to leave, I think it is easier while having two legs."
"What do you...Oh, your prosthetic. Sorry I totally forgot about it." Jack came walking back to him him and stood behind him. He put his arm around Hiccup's upper chest.
"Wha- what re you doing?" Hiccup said with reddening cheeks.
"I'm trying to get you to your feet, or foot." He continued pulling Hiccup up. It didn't cost a lot of effort but Jack's body behind Hiccup felt really cold. A shiver went passed his spine and Jack seemed to notice.
"Are you cold?" It was almost if Jack became sad over the fact but he didn't let go of Hiccup.
"N-no. I'm good. Shall we go?" Jack let one of his hands slip to Hiccup's waist and with the other he took his hand and put it around his own shoulder. Jack was still cold but Hiccup decided to just ignore it. Jack was about to walk while helping Hiccup to walk when Hiccup stopped him.
"Wait, how are you able to help me walk with all your wounds. You had quite a lot."
"I'll manage it. Don't worry. Right now we have to get you into safety. Here you can use my staff to help you walk as well." Jack let go of Hiccup's hand and picked the staff he almost forgot. Jack handed him his staff and Hiccup took it. He hadn't seen it at first, but the staff was covered in frost. As soon as Jack released the staff the frost started to melt. Hiccup looked at it for a couple of seconds before he looked back at Jack.
"Thanks Jack." Jack gave him a genuine smile and they started to walk. They weren't really fast because Hiccup had to hop with each step they took since he only had one foot to walk on. They were just walking and hoping forward. Hiccup knew Jack wouldn't admit it but he could see by the expressions on his face he was on lots of pain.
"Why don't you just say it is hurting you?" Hiccup thought by himself. The hoping began to hurt himself as well. It was hard to fall with every hop. When they reached a small mountain stream Hiccup really needed to stop. His leg was hurting a lot and what seemed from Jack's expression he wasn't able to hold it together any longer.
"Let's take a break, Jack." Hiccup noticed Jack had to keep himself from immediately dropping to the ground. He led Hiccup to the stream before sitting down himself. Hiccup took of his boot and let his foot dangle in the water. They said in silence for a couple of minutes while Hiccup was massaging his cramped leg and Jack was examining some wounds which had reopened.
"Wait a minute," Jack looked up at him. "...with the water I can clean your wounds." Jack looked at him with a questioning look.
"You really don't ha-"
"Just take your sweater off." Jack took off his sweater hesitantly. Hiccup again took his knife and cut another part of his tunic off. When Jack had his tunic off Hiccup dipped the fabric in the water and got closer to Jack. He brought it to one of the wounds and started to clean it. But when the water touched Jack's skin it instantly turned into water. He looked Jack into his eyes and saw he had been expecting this.
"Jack, I know you told me your temperature is colder, but don't you think this is extremely cold?" Jack just looked back at him and sighed deeply. He put on his sweater and grabbed his staff from the ground beside Hiccup. He looked at Hiccup once more before he turned his back on him and walked towards the woods.
"Jack! Jack, were are you going!" Hiccup shouted.
"I'm leaving." He stopped walking but didn't turn around.
"Why? Because water turned into ice?" He asked still not able to walk towards Jack.
"Exactly because of that. A lot of people don't appreciate it when you can turn things into ice. Just because it was seen as witchcraft. I was being chased for days. Only children who believe are able to see me now. I don't even know how you're able to see me." Jack finished and was about to continue walking.
"Jack, but why do you walk away from me. I didn't accuse you of witchcraft, did I?"
"No. not yet, but you will eventually think it's creepy." Jack now turned around and Hiccup could see his eyes were being watery.
"Believe me, I won't. I actually think it is pretty cool."
"You...do?" Jack asked.
"I thought I just said I did." Jack had to laugh a bit at this. "If you come back over here I can continue cleaning your wounds." Jack seemed to hesitate but eventually walked towards Hiccup and sat down. He took off is sweater once again so Hiccup could continue the cleaning.
"Maybe while I am busy you can tell me about why you're able to create ice?" Hiccup this time just put his hand in the water to scoop some.
"Maybe I'll tell you some other time. I don't really feel like telling that story." Hiccup brought the water he had scooped and poured it on one of the wounds. As he expected it turned to ice immediately.
"I'm listening." Hiccup said while pouring more water on his wounds.
"Well a while ago I found out I could be seen by people. Before no one could. That has been since I was able to create ice. I wanted to be seen and have friends. I was lucky and all of a sudden people could see me. I was happy at first. I could talk to people again, but then someone saw how I accidentally froze something. He immediately called everyone he knew. They all accused me of witchcraft and wanted to kill me. I fled but was followed. Then I wanted to never be seen again. It worked, from then only people who believed in my existence could see me."
"So you're saying that because I believe in your existence in can see you." Hiccup said and stopped for a second with freezing the wounds.
"I think so."
"But I'm not a kid anymore. I'm fifteen!"
"I don't know. Usually only children can see until they're twelve." Jack said confused. "We'll figure that out later on."
"We'll see, but finish you're story." Hiccup said exited and looked at Jack who laughed at him.
"Were was I? I already know. I was chosen to protect children with four other 'people': The guardians of childhood. North, guardian of wonder, Toothiana or Tooth, guardian of memories, Sandy, guardian of dreams, Bunnymund or Bunny, guardian of hope and then there is me, Jack Frost, guardian of fun."
"Wait you are Jack Frost? I thought you said you were Jackson Overland. Why did you lye? " Hiccup said confused.
"I used to be him, but I'll explain that another time. And I didn't know what you would do when you knew who I was. But how do you know me?"
"You're a local legend in my village. Everyone admires you."
"That's awesome! I can't wait to meet them. But you can't tell them who I am. It can be dangerous for them if they know, just say I'm Jackson Overland, okay?"
"First of all, thanks for the warning of danger. And secondly, I won't say anything."
"Thank you Hic! This really means a lot to me" Jack said while giving Hiccup a hug. Hiccup felt his cheeks redden and coughed awkwardly. Jack let go and scratched the back of his neck embarrassed.
"Uhm, sorry about that." Jack said and Hiccup saw that even Jack's cheeks gained a little purple tint.
"I-it's okay. Please, finish your story." Hiccup switched his position and let his foot dangle in the water once more.
"Well, we were summoned to stop Pitch Black, the Boogeyman, and his Nightmares from letting all children stop believing in the guardians what would result in their disappearance. He almost succeeded but there was still one boy who still believed. He also became the first person to see me. Together with his and his friends help we managed to defeat Pitch. And now I'm here." Jack finished his story. Hiccup noticed that while he had been telling it had started snowing again. Hiccup didn't say a thing and just watched the snow falling.
"It sounds like you had an easy life." He finally said breaking the silence.
"Over time you learn to bear with it. Were you finished with the water by the way." Hiccup looked at the ice on Jack's wounds.
"Yeah, I finished it a couple of minutes ago. Why, are you cold?" He asked sarcastically.
"Funny, but no. How are your wounds doing?"
"I think they're okay."
"Now it's my time to cover your wounds. This time it's your time to take your tunic of." Hiccup did what Jack told him to. Jack wanted to scoop some water but before his hand touched the water it turned into ice. Hiccup looked at the ice spreading across the stream and took his foot out of the water. It was amazing to see. He never saw anything like this before. The ice kept spreading until a big part was covered in ice.
"That's very cool." They both looked at each other and started to laugh.
"But how will you be able to cover the wounds without water."
"It will work without." Jack put his hand on one of Hiccup's wounds. The cold stole Hiccup's breath for a second before he relaxed into his touch. Though it was cold it was somewhat comforting. Jack repeated this until most of his wounds were covered with a layer of ice. Hiccup started to shiver and looked at sky above them. He noticed the sun was already setting again.
"Jack, I think we should find a place to sleep."
"We could stay here for the night and sleep here."
"But for me it's to cold right now. You know, with the frozen stream and everything."
"Don't worry I'll take care of that. Use this for extra warmth tonight." Jack gave him his sweater and after looking at Jack who urged him to wear it he put it on. The frost which was left on the sweater melted immediately. It actually felt pretty cozy and Hiccup felt his eyes become heavy. He closed them and laid down. His head touched something soft and Hiccup assumed it were Jack's legs. He was too tired to bother. He felt how a hand caressed his hair before he fell in a deep sleep.
