This is a short poem I had to write for English. It was supposed to be a descriptive poem about nature, but I figured an underground lake was a nature feature too. I like it and the eleventh grader who read it chose it out of three others, so I guess it's pretty good. Anyway, here it is.

Oh, and don't forget about the little bluish button at the bottom of the screen. It says "Submit Review". Please click on it, so I can give you fudge. I like fudge. :-)

Beneath the Ground

Beneath the street there lies a lake.

A great pool of water beneath everyone's feet.

Down there it is frigid and damp, chilling to the bone.

Dust rises from the ground with every step.

My breath appears as vapor in the feeble light.

The silence is so thick it seems to suffocate me.

Waves laps gently on the shore.

Illuminated water stretches on and on.

It's dark as a crypt and smells like one too.

Rats scurry in the shadows.

I shudder to think what else could be in the shadows.

Hiding, watching.

A feeling of death fills the air.

I shiver, wanting to sprint away to the surface.

I pause, listening closely.

Nothing.

Nothing but the music of my imagination.
