Jane stood in the doorway of the small apartment she had been sharing with Sirius for a few months. She held their little girl in her arms as she watched Sirius take another gulp of fire whisky.
"I know our separation has it faults," Jane began as Sirius looked up at her with dark eyes. It almost tore her heart to pieces to see that hurt look. "I don't want to leave it all."
"So write the letters in teary ink," Sirius snapped.
"I just need some time to think," She pleaded to him. He had to understand. "I just need some time to breathe."
"Baby just say goodnight," Sirius said in a defeated voice.
"I'll be gone tomorrow," Jane said. She set their daughter down on the couch to let her sleep. She went over to Sirius and kissed his cheek. "Baby just close your eyes, I can't take the sorrow."
"Baby just walk away," Sirius said softly.
"You know I can't stay," Jane whispered. She had to go to protect him and their daughter. She would leave her with Severus. He was the one person that wasn't a marauder or her family that she could trust. Voldemort was after her, and only her.
"There's no easy way to say goodbye," Sirius said staring up at her with anguished eyes. "So baby just say goodnight."
"It seems like we're in a spell that never ends," Jane said bitterly as she pulled away from him.
"The empty hourglass wore me thin," Sirius said wearily.
"We'll let the mirrors do their work," Jane said hopefully.
"Your voice is heaven but it hurts," Sirius said staring down at the bottle of fire whisky.
Your words are memories, but they burn, Jane thought.
"Don't say goodbye," Sirius pleaded.
"Just close your eyes," Jane soothed. "And dream tomorrow's on its way."
"So just walk away," Sirius said.
"Goodnight," Jane whispered and turned away. She scooped up their little girl and left quickly.
"Goodbye," Sirius said and took another slug of fire whisky.
