A/N: If you haven't already seen it, go watch Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back before reading this fanfic. It doesn't make as much sense otherwise.
Disclaimer: The characters belong to Gosho. Star Wars (tm) belongs to George Lucas. I'm neither of the above.

Haibara faced Vermouth in the center of the darkened, nearly empty warehouse. Vermouth's handgun was aimed, rock-solid, at Haibara's head.

"There is no escape. Don't make me destroy you," Vermouth said coldly. "Sherry, you do not yet realize your importance. You've only begun to discover your potential. Join me, and I will complete your training. With our combined strength, we can end this destructive conflict, and bring order to the world."

"I'll never join you!" Haibara snapped, her eyes flashing.

"You don't know the power of the Dark Side," Vermouth said calmly. "They never told you what happened to your mother."

"She died in an accident," Haibara said, scowling at Vermouth.

"No." Vermouth held up a picture in her other hand. "I am your mother."

"No!" Haibara gasped. "That's... that's not true!"

"You know it is," Vermouth said, glaring at her. "You remember."

Haibara dropped to one knee. "N.. no! No!"

Vermouth's face was set like stone. "Sherry, you can destroy the Organization. I have forseen this. It is your destiny! Join me, and together, we can rule the world as mother and daughter!"

Haibara's face snapped up, her expression once more defiant. "Not a chance."

Vermouth was caught by surprise by the shot from Haibara's concealed snub-nose pistol. It knocked her handgun from her hand, giving Haibara enough time to make a dash for the door.

Edogawa... help me! she thought silently, racing through the dark alley out onto the main street. Suddenly a very familiar yellow Beetle swerved in front of her. The door popped open and a pair of strong hands caught her and pulled her inside. That was the last thing she remembered.
