Amethyst lounged in the softest chair in her collection of furnishings. She thought about the events that took place on a day few weeks ago. That day had been a stressful one: with Steven learning the truth behind her origins, confronting her own self hatred, and battling Pearl over her obvious distaste for Kindergarten- the place where evil Gems grew an army of parasitic Gems with an intent to use them to further their plans that would've endangered the Earth and its inhabitants. Pearl had always ragged on Amethyst for her vulgarity, immaturity, or whatever else she deemed to be unbecoming of someone belonging to the Crystal Gems. These taunts were seen as constructive criticism through Pearl's eyes, while Amethyst viewed them as a constant reminder of her outlying characteristics. Earlier today, Amethyst believed Pearl saw her as an embarrassing mistake, but Pearl- much to her surprise- refuted that with a statement Amethyst had trouble believing that it actually came out of her mouth. Amethyst attempted to replay their conversation in her head. What was it she said again? Something like, "You're the one good thing to come out of this mess." Yeah, that sounds about right. Heh. Pearl's such a cornball. She totally mushed out on her. Wish she didn't seen me act like such a baby, though. It kinda donked up our dynamic. I…need to restore the rightful order..but how? Hmm…
Amethyst jolted her body into an upright position, as if the idea she just had struck her like lightning. Grinning in a way that indicated mischief, she ambled over to the "puddle" that lead to Pearl's room.
Pearl anxiously hummed while she reorganized her prized collection of swords. She did so hurriedly and without care, as if she didn't care if one of them happened to tumble out of balance and down into Amethyst's room, by way of one of the puddles. Accidentally, of course. Then she'd be forced to confront Amethyst. They'd have to talk and actually acknowledge each other. It had been a couple of weeks since their last conversation, outside of pleasantries and necessary interchanges of information. As much as Pearl found it uncomfortable to consider, she had enjoyed breaking the ice surrounding the topic of Amethyst's beginnings. It really took us several steps further in our relationship, Pearl mused. Our completely platonic relationship. Yes. Pearl was overwhelmed by several tumultuous emotions. She tried not to keep re-imagining the hug shared between her and Amethyst, and the way she lovingly enveloped her in her strong arms, burying her face into Pearl's lithe form. She attempted to forget the way Amethyst always teased her. It was of no use. She had a seemingly otherworldly presence in Pearl's mind. Pearl projected some of her favorite shared moments between her and the rambunctious gem. She giggled at Amethyst in her early days of training. The time Pearl taught Amethyst to summon her weapon was one of her favorites- she told her about how the pattern in which cherry blossom's petals fall to the ground was seemingly erratic and formless, but in actuality it was predetermined by the construct of the petal, and by the forces of gravity and resistance to air. Of course, Amethyst found this all incredibly boring, and then and there she summoned her whip and sliced off one of the branches of her beloved tree. She recalled that hallowed moments in their shared formation into Opal. The goal of protecting all that was left of their adored companion was what pulled them together in a time of crisis, but the emotional bond formed by fusing for the first time in years lead them to understand each other in ways that couldn't have happened otherwise. If only Pearl could find a way to show Amethyst how she truly felt. Until then, her projections would have to suffice.
Lazily reclining into a couch with a sense of defeat, Pearl projected Amethyst's form from her gem. She sliced the space between the gem and the projection, and the holo-Amethyst came to life- well, it was as alive as the programming it was encoded with made it. "Hey Pearl," holo-Amethyst cooed. "Amethyst! What a surprise! I assume you have some important business to discuss with me, because you never visit me otherwise." Pearl adjusted herself in the chair in an attempt to appear sexually appealing. The tiniest snicker seemed to come from holo-Amethyst. "Give it a rest, P. You know I'm not the type to mess with anything that sounds like business. I just wanna talk." holo-Amethyst said, as it sauntered towards the anxious Gem. Holo-Amethyst took a seat beside the length of Pearl, and curled up at her side. It felt lukewarm against the Gem's side, causing Pearl to long for the actual touch of her compatriot. "So. There's something I've been wanting to tell you for the longest. You can probably guess what it is, 'cause you're so smaaart." "Perhaps…it is something relating to Steven's knowledge of Kindergar-" "Don't play silly with me. I'll give you one more guess." Pearl swallowed in anticipation of what was coming. "Did you come to…discuss your feelings…" With each pause in her sentences, holo-Amethyst moved its body over Pearl's, its knees pressed into the couch, with Pearl's thighs between them. "..your feelings in regards to what happened at Kindergarten. Between us." "Yup." Holo-Amethyst brought its nose up to her face, and gently touched it to the point of Pearl's nose. Pearl blushed, recalling the day when Steven organized birthday parties for the Gems and Amethyst poked her nose with the birthday hat. "That was really nice of you…what you said." "Oh, one does aim to please a friend when they're in distress." "A friend?" Holo-Amethyst queried, as she moved her hands from the back of the couch and to Pearl's shoulders. "You and I both know that there's been this tension between us, and I know how to break it." Holo-Amethyst leaned in to touch her lips to Pearl's. Pearl closed her eyes in expectation. A loud gurgle followed by a familiar laugh shook Pearl from her trance. Pearl frantically stood up and shooed the hologram away, searching for the source of the noise. To the left of the couch, Amethyst's head poked out of the water pillar, while a huge grin spread across her face.
