Hi everyone! Not only is this my first H50 fic, but also the first written in English. So please, be kind. Also, if anyone wants to be my beta, you are more than welcome; although I have checked this a thousand times, I know there are some grammar and spelling mistakes somewhere.

This chapter is an episode tag to episode 16. I felt there was hurt but no comfort and, more importantly, no bromance. This is my attempt, with some extra scenes between the rest of the Five-0 crew and Amber; I really like her and I think Danny and her are such a lovely couple! I don't care about age differences; Frank was more or less the same age as Amber and look how good it went...

Disclaimer: I do not own Hawaii Five-0 or there will be more bromance.

As soon as Steve hung up the phone, there were four pairs of eyes looking at him. He could see the concern in their eyes but he wasn't comfortable giving too much information in front of the arsonist.

"Steve, what happened?" asked Chin. He had let Kono cuff Duclair while Grover was checking if Kathy was alright despite the bruises on her face. They had both taken them out of the room, leaving the Lieutenant and the NAVY Seal alone.

"It was Amber. Danny was stabbed by Frank and she took him to the hospital."

"What?! Where? How bad is it?". Steve noticed Chin's voice trembling when he asked the last question. Although Steve was like a brother to Danny and vice versa, Chin also cared about Danny; not only did he appreciate him, he was also his friend and was worried about him too.

"Tripler. He was taken to surgery an hour ago and nobody has talked to her since". He didn't notice Chin's hand on his shoulder. He couldn't stop thinking about Danny. He remembered al the blood after the rebar got stuck in his abdomen when the building collapsed nearly a year ago.

"C'mon, brah. He's going to be okay".

"Chin, I gotta go". Steve hadn't even listened to Chin. He was loosing his time; he needed to go to the hospital as soon and quickly as possible.

"Of course. We'll take Duclair and Agent Millwood to the palace. Call if there is any news."

He left the room and ran through the elevator, ignoring the looks on everyone else's faces. He has been too busy working on the case to warn Amber and Danny in person when they hadn't answered their phones. Hell, he hadn't even look for the address of the beach house where they were!

What happened to Danny had been his fault, he was sure about that. He just hoped his partner survived, because otherwise he couldn't forgive himself.

The race to the hospital was a nightmare similar to the ones he had the days immediately after being rescued from Wo Fat. Except this time he was awake. Fortunately, he hadn't had time to calm Amber down and asked her what happened when the surgeon greeted them with good news.

The relief he felt was similar to a cold shower in a particularly hot day. His partner, his brother, was going to be okay. Amber hugged him and he hugged her back, both comforting each other after one of the most difficult moments of their lives.

Only one person at a time was allowed into Danny's room. When Amber went inside, Steve saw Danny lying unconscious on his bed until the door closed after her. His friend looked pale and was surrounded by too many machines, but he was alive. Steve smiled and turned away from the door; he felt Amber and Danny would appreciate the intimacy. He took the phone and called Chin as he had promised before he would call when he knew anything.

"Chin! It's Steve". Steve hadn't stopped talking when Chin asked him about Danny. "He's going to be fine."

Another hour passed until the whole team arrived at the hospital; Amber was still with Danny. Steve greeted them and had to tell all of them at least three times that Danny was okay until they finally stopped asking. Chin, Kono and Lou sighed with relief and stayed in the waiting room whereas Steve talked one last time to Agent Millwood and said goodbye. After Kathy left, he decided to go to grab some coffee before joining his team, his friends, his family. It was going to be a long day.

"I would have won, you know?" asked Lou. Chin and Kono were talking to each other and Steve was lost in his own thoughts. Lou knew he had to do something to distract him.

Steve shook his head and looked at Lou with a confused expression on his face.

"What? What are you talking about?"

"Golf, of course!" Although the big man pretended to look offended, the former Seal knew he was really amused. "I would have won. And you know it, Commander", he repeated with a stupid grin on his face.

"C'mon, man. Don't do this to yourself..." Steve was starting to feel amused too. Grover's attempts to distract him had been successful.

"So you say. All I needed was one move, one single move."

"You think I can't make it?"

"I'm not saying you can't make it", Lou corrected Steve, "I'm just saying if I had to bet on someone's golf skills right now, it would be mine"

"You think he can't make it", said Kono. Both she and Chin had been paying attention to Grover and Steve's conversation about the unfinished golf tournament and none of them had realized it until that moment.

"You do?" asked Lou, who suddenly looked annoyed.

"You, my friend, are playing with fire." said Chin.

"C'mon, guys! Why are you all against me?"

Chin and Kono exchanged a look, smiled even more and said nothing. Steve remained silent watching the scene as if it were a tennis match, far more amused than Lou was at the moment.

"Why are you smiling? You know I'm right!"

"Are you?" Steve was enjoying that so much he had already forgot they were in a hospital. "Because you don't look confident to me"

"I didn't wanna do this, but you give me no choice". After a dramatic pause of about ten seconds, he spoke again. "Let's see who would have won"

Steve raised his coffee to show his agreement, leaving Lou puzzled; the big man had thought Steve would avoid that, but nothing further from truth. He opened his mouth once again to show his discomfort with that but was interrupted with Amber's presence coming into the room. The four Five-0 members stood up when they saw her, but it was Kono who got to her first.

"Amber! What are you doing here? We thought you were with Danny"

"Is something wrong?" asked Steve full of concern. He felt relieved when Amber shook her head.

"No, none of that. He sent me away, told me to go home and get some rest."

"You know, Amber, I think that's a good idea", said Chin. All of them couldn't stop looking at all the blood, Danny's blood, on Amber's clothes.

"I don't wanna leave him alone"

"He is not", said Steve going to the door. The nurse had said only one visitor at a time, and now that Amber had left, it was his turn to see his friend. "You go, take a shower, change your clothes and grab some food. I'll be with him until you're back".

"C'mon, I'll take you", said Grover leading Amber to the door. "I have to pick the boy from school in an hour; I'll take you home and pick you up after I leave him home".

Amber couldn't find words to thank them enough for what they were doing. She had only known the Five-0 crew for less than a year, but she could see why Danny thought of them as family. There they were, waiting for him, even though they had just wrapped a case and all they needed was catching up on some sleep. And Amber knew, even though no one had mentioned it, that they knew who she really was. And there they were, supporting her.

"I want to give my statement". She hadn't move from where she was standing.

"It can wait, you know", said Steve, who hadn't left the room yet and was standing between the door and Lou and Amber. "It doesn't have to be today".

"Yes, it has", corrected Amber. "The sooner the better".

Nobody spoke for a moment; Amber's fierce determination had muted every possible reply. Suddenly, Chin spoke.

"I'll call Duke. But you go home first"

"Thank you, guys"

After that, Amber and Lou headed to the car and Steve to Danny's room whereas Chin made his call. Kono sat on her chair and took a fashion magazine until her cousin came back to the waiting room. Chin sat silently in the chair next to Kono's and sighed.

"Is everything okay?" asked Kono.

"Yeah. Duke told me Frank is dead; all HPD could do when they arrived was confirming it. He is finishing with Duclair right now but he'll be done by the time Amber arrives."

Kono looked at her cousin's inscrutable expression and then she left the magazine and patted Chin's leg with empathy. She knew he was thinking in the similarities between what had happened that day and what happened between Malia and Delano. She knew that Chin still blamed himself for that, but thinking objectively, the situation was not so similar. Chin would never forget Malia, but it didn't help he hadn't been able to meet Leilani recently because of each other's jobs. Right now, she was all he had.

"Relax, cuz. Frank will never hurt Amber anymore and Danny will be fine. Everything is okay." she smiled sadly.

"Yeah. Everything is okay", he repeated. He took Kono's hand.

All Steve could hear when he entered Danny's room was the noise of the machines responsible for controlling Danny's vitals. There were a lot of monitors (too many) reminding him how his mistake nearly cost his partner's life, and a lot of cables attached to different parts of his body that were telling him Danny was not Superman but another human being, unable to escape from his own mortality. He smiled when he remembered how much they disliked each other when they first met; Danny had thought Steve was a fool for breaking every single rule, whereas Steve had thought Danny was a fool for following every single rule and wearing a tie in Hawaii. Four years later, some things had changed: Steve followed some rules every once in a while whereas Danny had got used to breaking some of them with (almost) no regrets and, besides, didn't wear a tie anymore. But the biggest change had been the relationship between the two: they had become more than partners, more than friends. They always had each other's back, inside and outside work. They were brothers. That's why it hurt Steve so much to see his partner like that, as fragile as a broken puppet: because he could have prevented it.

"Are you drawing me like one of your French girls, babe?"

"Hey, buddy", Steve smiled. Danny wouldn't be feeling so bad if he was able to make some jokes. He realized he was still standing next to the curtain between the door and Danny, so he sat in the chair next to his partner's bed. "How are you feeling?"

"Marvelous", said Danny ironically. Steve's face tensed; if Danny was in pain maybe he should call the doctors to increase the medication and leave the talk for later. After all, the surgeon had said before it would take some time for Danny to be back on the road. He felt a weak yet firm grip on his arm and saw it was Danny's hand. "Relax, Steven. I'm fine."

"No, Danny, you're not. This is all my fault"

"What?" Danny shifted uncomfortably in bed, wincing from the pain in his recently stitched abdomen. "Why? What are you talking about? This is not your fault"

"Yes, it is. If I hadn't been so obsessed with solving the case, you wouldn't be in here right now".

"No. It could have been you", replied Danny with a serious expression on his face. "The thing is I don't care, okay? I don't care about being confined to this bed for the next few days with a brand new scar as long as Amber and everyone are okay. Which, by the way, they are."

"Except you".

"Except me. But give me a week and I'll be as good as new", he grinned. "I'm better than Frank, anyway." He was almost unconscious when he had heard the yelling, he had felt a horrible bump on the road... and then nothing. Amber had told him the rest of the story but he was happy to see that his brain was still capable of putting the pieces together. "You should have seen her, Steve. You would have been proud; she pulled one of your Super-Seal stunts..." He winced once again when he laughed. This time, it was Danny who felt Steve's strong gripe on his arm.

"Relax, buddy. You need to rest"

"C'mon, grandma! I am resting. I can't do anything else". Steve smiled when Danny's face reminded him of Grace's. Like father, like daughter; they were both equally stubborn. "So where is Amber? I think she got upset when I told her to go tome..."

"She just left, actually. Lou took her home. She is giving her statement to HPD before coming back here" and he added before Danny could answer: "Yours can wait a day or two".

"Good", Danny sighed and closed his eyes with relief. When he opened them again, he met Steve's concerned ones. "I'm fine. Just tired".

"Rest". This time, Steve's tone was more authoritarian and didn't leave place for complaints. "We'll be here when you wake up".

Danny said nothing and got as comfortable as possible in his bed. He was really tired, he felt weak and his abdomen hurt. Maybe Steven was right, maybe he should rest. After all, resting could do no harm to him and it would help him to gather some strength, right? The Jersey native closed his eyes and was soon asleep. The former Seal relaxed in his chair and just kept an eye on him, making sure no threat disturbed his so much needed sleep.

Did you like it? I don't really like the ending, but I couldn't think of a better one. Please, review!
