A/N: This is really short lol, But I got inspired by "Last 1 Standing" so I wrote this!
He's lounging around his room shirtless, watching Kickass, when his phone goes off, letting out a shrill, pixelated sound of Mario's "Let Me Love You" (in which he's not exactly proud of his ringtone) and he picks up as fast as he could, careful not to wake up anyone.
"Hello?"
The sound of sniffling is the only thing that assures Zander that someone is fact on the other side of the phone. Hoping that it is indeed who his caller ID indicated it to be, he tries his luck, carefully speaking her name, "Stevie?"
She responds in a hoarse sob. Concern flares over him as he rummages his drawers to find a clean shirt. "Is everything okay, Stevie?" he whispers, because its late at night and he really doesn't want to wake up his parents.
Stevie attempts to hold back another sob, trying to breathe in enough to be able to at least mummer something. "Can you come over?" She manages to breathe out. Her voice sounds so broken and gravely that he can barely believe its Stevie.
-line break-
"Hi." It comes out barely above a whisper, but she knows he heard it.
He grins sheepishly at her. "What's wrong?" He asks vaguely, stepping quietly into her house, hands stuffed in his jeans pocket.
She lowers her gaze to the floor. Zander waves it off and lifts her chin up so their eyes could meet.
Stevie barely lets out a strangled breath. "He's… He's dead." She stutters helplessly.
A broken and scared, "Who?" drifts through the tense air and Zander secretly prays it's not Nelson or Kevin. Stevie slams her eyes shut, willing the tears to stop, but to no avail, she continues crying.
"Stevie… who died?"
The concern evident in Zanders voice makes her cry even harder. "My dad."
He looks Stevie in the eyes and steps forward just a little bit, and he all but whispers out, "I'm so sorry." He pressed her head into the dip of his shoulder, fingers convulsing against the sides of her body. He wanted to hold her as close as humanly possible- as if to protect her from any more emotional damage.
"Z-Zander, h-he's dead!" Stevie voice breaks as her sobs violently rack through her body.
He nods slowly, tightening his grip on the crying brunette. Zander maneuvers to the couch while attempting to soothe Stevie. "Shh, it's okay. Calm down, Stevie." He runs a hand up and down her back.
Stevie curls up into him further, her tears still coming full force.
"I'm going to get you a glass of water, okay?" He whispers quietly in to her ear.
She shakes her head violently and tightens her arms around his waist. "I'll be back. I'm not leaving." He promises and makes his way into the kitchen.
He comes back a second later and Stevie allows herself to smile sadly at him for not breaking his promise.
