Prologue:
"Come on, come on, come on," Ashley muttered under her breath, volume increasing with each word, "Come on! Munenori, why do you have to do this to me?!"
With all her might, she threw her pale blue IPhone across the room, and it hit one of the many colorful pillows that sat collected at the top of her bed, before falling to the thickly padded mattress with a thump. Folding her arms across her chest, the tiny brunette glowered and slumped back in her black velvet computer-chair. A knock sounded at her door.
After a few moments of silence, the brass doorknob twisted, and the white-wash door clicked open. "Ash?" Ally poked her head in hesitantly, inky black braid falling forward around her shoulders and dangling in the air like a snake. Her round, azure orbs flickered around the war-zone.
Ashley's amber eyes met her gaze, and the brunette glared. "What?"
"Why are you sulking?"
"I am not sulking!" Ashley jerked upwards, her scowl deepening. The chair almost rolled out from under her and it bumped against the dark-painted desk behind. She pointed accusingly at the cellphone on her bed, and growled, "I ran out of energy."
Ally paused for a moment. She stared at her best friend, and tried to keep a mask of composure plastered to her face. Ashley was nineteen now, almost twenty, and hadn't changed a bit since they met in high school. She was still obsessed with cartoon characters.
But then again, so was Ally.
"Do you have any Rice Balls left? Or did you blow through them already?" Ally smirked as she stepped inside the room, a victim herself of the frustration otome games like Ninja Love (+) brought upon hormonal girls like themselves. Each player started with a total of five energy points, which are used to unlock each chapter and advance further through the story line. It took forever and a half for those little points to recharge, and Rice Balls were one of the only ways to cheat and immediately recharge them.
Ally sat down on the edge of the bed, wrinkling the gray comforter beneath her, and picked up Ashley's phone. She pressed the home-button and swiped in the girl's password.
"It's not my fault," Ashley rubbed at her eyes, "They make it so tempting. I couldn't help it. I succumbed to my ovaries."
"Then I have no pity for you," Ally rolled her eyes.
Ashley chucked a pencil at her and Ally ducked, cackling madly. She climbed to her feet and adjusted her tattered band t-shirt. "Alright, alright. I'll leave you alone. I just wanted to make sure that you weren't going to throw your laptop out the window again." She shot Ashley a dark look when the brunette's lips parted to protest. Ashley scowled and Ally moved towards the door, "We have school tomorrow. So get some sleep."
"Don't tell me what to do." Ashley stuck her tongue out back. Ally rolled her eyes and shut the door behind her, as she headed to her own bedroom to go to sleep.
And that was the last night the girls saw each other.
