Hello friends. :D Enjoy!
Wars never end. Whether against others or even the land, it never changes either. That's why me as a grown old man still fights to this very day. To keep my family safe and to keep food, shelter and clothing there whenever they needed it.
"I'll have to see you all some other time," I said to my daughter and wife with the new born baby.
"Daddy, do you promise to take me to the waterfall?" my daughter, Marian asked.
"Sure, just wait for me here kiddo and I'll take you there. I promise," I told her.
"Dave, please come back to us. Derek will need a father figure to look up to," my wife told me.
"Alright, I promise I will be back," I assured.
A promise that I broke. A promise I knew that I couldn't keep. I lied and even in my grave now I toss and turn waiting for my wife and daughter to stop crying and forget about me.
When the remaining men came back from the brutal destruction, they delivered some bad news. News that could make even the toughest of men and women of the village burst down in tears. It was of me, dying and leaving the village… for good. No one got more impacted by it than my own daughter and wife.
It wasn't all too bad though, I made sure that there was something for my daughter and soon even my son to remember me by. A sword, my first sword that I used to go out at war. I knew my job can bring dread and so, I will leave something to remember my brave but foolish efforts of work. A sword for my daughter and a shield for my son.
I arose from my comfy bed and stretched. I got up and walk towards my closet and slapped on some clothes. Black shirt, dark grey cargo pants and an orange hoodie cause why not? I looked into the mirror just to do nothing and leave my bedroom.
"Derek! Honey come down, breakfast is ready!" my mom called out.
"I'm coming mom!" I replied. I ran downstairs and greet my mother and sister. I slumped down onto the first seat I saw and waited. The smell of steamed fish filled the house which got me hungry. My mom came and placed down steamed fish. I ate it like an animal.
"Stop it you pig!" my sister demanded.
"What? Jealous of my eating skills?"
"How you are eating, there is nothing to be jealous about. Maybe pity sure, definitely pity."
"HEY!" My mother broke the conversation between us.
"Calm down you two. Now I have some errands for you guys."
"What is it mom?" I asked. She opened a bag she had and pulled out a piece of paper with my sister's and my name on it.
"I've already signed with the general of the village. He needs these papers brought in today for you two to join the army." I shouted out with excitement.
"ALRIGHT!" My mother smiled.
"However, you guys won't get signed up right away. They'll be taking you all to another continent for that." I paused.
"Wait, continent?! Why are we… wait what's a continent again?" My sister smacked me across the head.
"It's another land mass idiot," she informed me, brutally. I rubbed my bruised head.
"You don't have to hit me yah know."
"That's the only way information gets into your thick skull. Mrs. Brendan at school thought you that yesterday! What's wrong with your head huh?" I snarled at her.
"If I have to break you two up again you wouldn't like it," my mother said creepily. That shuts us both up.
"Good," she said smiling.
"Now I don't know all the details but you guys are going to go to the continent known as… Terraria. If Derek was paying attention yesterday, there are three different sizes for each continent/island. Large, Medium and Small." I perked up.
"Oh yeah, Mrs. Brendan explained that they seemed to appear out of nowhere somehow, kind of like a god is creating them."
"Right. So we are going to a continent know as Terraria? Sounds good but why are we going to separate continents, I thought Dad protected our island not go to another continent," my sister said. My mother froze at that statement.
"Well, the army is now focusing on Terraria for now," she said, nervously.
"Yeah, where is dad anyways? He hasn't come back for a long time…" I said. My mother and sister exchanged glances.
"Look Derek, he…" my sister was cut off by my mom.
"Don't worry about that now, your father is fine," she said, nearly crying.
"Anyways, you'll have to go there tomorrow. Understand?" My sister and I nodded.
"Good." I took the piece of paper and my sister and I left towards the barracks. Young people to old where here, in fact they needed all the men (and women) they could get. I'm not sure what's going on but they say there are forces in Terraria that we are against over here.
We entered the barracks, where a man somewhere in his thirties greeted us.
"Hey there kiddos!" He ran up to us and hugged (squeezed) us. I gasped for breath after he let us go.
"Hey, Greg. How's the family?" my sister asked. How did she survive a fricking bear hug like that?!
"Oh you know… the usual. So what are you two doing here? Finally got allowed to fight on the front lines?" he said while laughing.
"Yeah actually," my sister said. He stopped immediately.
"My gosh, you two are growing just like your father!" he brought us up into another death trap of a hug. I almost fainted.
"Yeah, so where do we give this paper in?" I said, handing it to him. He walked up to a counter and read it. He signed it and said,
"Derek, fourteen. Overall balanced fighter. Can use both melee and ranged weapons well."
"That's me."
"Marian, sixteen. A next balanced fighter. Not too shabby on the melee side but is better at ranged and magic. I see."
"Right…"
"Well we're going to have to test you first on the field's tomorrow morning. Come early, they give out free muffins."
"MUFFINS?!" I blurted out.
"Muffins," he assured me.
"AWESOME!" I shouted.
"Be prepared, with your armor and weapons to. We'll be testing you based on it."
"Okay." My sister and I left, to get ready for tomorrow and try and pass. Hopefully we will.
