Smoke on the Water
E/O Drabble Challenge: word count 100
Challenge word: withdraw
Warnings: None
Summary: The Atlantic is fierce and unforgiving, but it's even scarier when something supernatural interferes with nature, as Dean and Sam find out.
He's smoke on the water.
Dark, grey. Insubstantial. Transitory.
He's dissolving, dissipating on the breeze across the surface of the deep.
He tries to hang onto his sense of self, but the breeze is becoming a storm that'll sweep him away.
Waves crash onto the shore, sweep in then withdraw, leaving the ocean's debris like flotsam and jetsam along the high-tide line. Sam trawls the beach, frantic for a sign. He finally stumbles across Dean, merely human driftwood, face down in the sand. The cursed shell's crushed in his fist.
All Sam cares about is that his brother's still breathing.
