Put a Ring on It
A/N: So this is my very first fic! I love Olitz, and I'm ready to see some good things happen for them on the show but who knows when that will happen (Shaddde, Hunty!) I heard that an upcoming ep is entitled "Put a Ring on It," so this is my interpretation of what that could mean on the show. Just a head's up- this starts out rough for us Olitzers, but I PROMISE it gets reallllllll good later on :)
Chapter 1
Liv took a deep breath and fidgeted a bit as Abby readjusted her veil.
"Liv, you look so beautiful!" Abby gushed.
Liv stared into the mirror in a haze. Vaguely she could see that Abby was right. Her Monique Lhuillier wedding dress was astonishingly beautiful. It was a close fitting trumpet silhouette with a sweetheart neckline. Thousands of small seed pearls and silver beads covered the bodice in a vintage yet chic design. The dress was everything she could have hoped for- and she looked gorgeous in it. Her veil was topped by a delicate vintage tiara that had been worn by Grace Kelly at her wedding reception to the prince in Monaco. Even though she wasn't the type to wear a tiara, her groom had insisted on having a huge, traditional wedding, and she felt she had to look the part to make him happy.
Olivia Pope looked like a modern day princess getting married. But it didn't change the fact that-
"Liv? Liv? Helloooo! Earth to the bride!" Abby said.
Olivia blinked. "What?" she asked in an atypically meek voice.
"I said, we've got to finish getting you dressed! You can't be late walking down the aisle to your own wedding!"
Olivia gave herself a little shake. A ray of light bounced off the engagement ring her groom had given her. It was rather large and extremely expensive-Jake had done well with the private security firm he started, and he had insisted that she wear this gargantuan ring. Olivia thought that the ring and this wedding were all to overcompensate-Jake wasn't stupid. He knew he would never have Olivia's heart the way Fitz had it.
Olivia looked at her engagement ring again. She much preferred the simple yet elegant eternity ring Fitz had once given her when he promised that they would get married, have kids, and make jam in Vermont for the rest of their lives…
Olivia shook herself again. No, I can't think about that, she scolded herself mentally. It's my wedding day. This is all for the best- Fitz and I can't be together, and Jake loves me. This is for the best.
Olivia was silent as Abby clasped a string of perfect Mikomoto pearls around her neck. She was getting married- so why did she feel like she was going to her execution?
Because this isn't right, she thought. I don't love him. I never have-he's just somebody I can't get rid of. Why am I doing this?
But deep down, she knew why. Fitz. She was still pining for Fitz, and this was an attempt to move past him. After she had thrown Fitz's eternity ring in his face a year ago, she had come to her senses a month later. She had called him on his secure line and asked him to meet her in Vermont. And of course he agreed-and he told her there was nothing he wouldn't forgive her for.
Everything seemed like it had just happened yesterday...
