Alright, so I know I should've updated my other stories, but stuff happened and I've had to re-do everything like five times from scratch so I'm not doing that until I can guarantee to myself my computer won't break down. Again. In any case, about this fic; Quick little blurblet, small paragraphs, etc. The entire story was devised when I felt like being an asshole and sending Latias to try to capture Latios, and I thought about what would be going in their heads during that battle, as I thought that Latios would just join without a fight. Well, he didn't, and I had to capture him, and then this story came into its own in my head.
All grammatical mistakes are intended. There are many, but all of the ones, especially when it comes to the "Master, Trainer" thing, are completely intended. If you notice any spelling errors, let me know and I'll take care of those (should be none, hopefully).
Disclaimer: I own nothing about this story, nor do I make any money from the publishing of this fanfiction. Please read and enjoy this one-shot.
She looked sadly over towards her counterpart. They had been together for years upon years, being two halves of the same whole. And now, look at them, not side-by-side as they always have been, but face to face in battle.
She never wanted this battle, but she knew how much her…master? Trainer. Trainer would want 'the whole set'. Her counterpart, her opponent, had judged him worthy of her power so many moons ago. And she has succeeded! She has gone beyond what many others like her would ever do, legend she might be.
And yet here they stand, locked again in combat. He hadn't trained on his own, and this battle was almost completely one-sided. But the discomfort was there, visible in her eyes but not in his. Was their judgment so different? To judge one worthy of her power but not of his…
No, that couldn't be. They were legends, and the two legends that all others had said were most alike. Two halves of a whole. All other duos couldn't say the same, but they could, but now they are, again facing each other.
His Heal Pulse's did nothing for her, abusing them as he was. It was as if he didn't want to hurt her, and she him, but her master…Trainer…commanded her too. Why must she do this? Why must she fight her brother? What was there to gain? Another notch in the belt? Just another one in the machine?
His orders were absolute, and she followed them all without failure, despite her mind and her body crying out not to. He was her BROTHER! Siblings shouldn't fight! Not like this. And as his mindless breath of the dragons encroached unto her body, she didn't flinch at all, but rather took it to the face, letting the once calming breath attempt its best to hurt her.
It wouldn't hurt her. He could never hurt her. She never wanted him to hurt her, and he never wanted her to hurt him. But the master's…Trainer's order's had to be obeyed. Obeyed without question, even for one of status like them. No, she must obey. He recognized that, and did his best to fight back, even though he knew he was outclassed by a far margin.
He was there, after all, when she took the championship. The final battle was with her at her master's…Trainer's side. She wasn't the one that went down, that honor went to her master's, Trainer's starter. And yet, as a sick joke, despite the months and months and years and years that she had given to her master, Trainer!, she was forced to fight against her brother.
She didn't even know how he got back to this island. The island was surrounded by a veil that prevents all humans from entering. You had to be accepted by one of them currently on the island to get in. So what would happen when there was none on this island to be let in? Would another version of them, much like the pathless islands she had been visiting lately, come through? Would they start to guard this island and its power?
Maybe she was over thinking it. Maybe her brother just wanted to see how far she'd come on his own, and her master agreed. That was why they were fighting. It was just a friendly spar! That must be it, there could be no other reason. Surely her master knows what would happen if this island were to have no guardians.
But the look on her brother's face spoke otherwise. He was trying his damnedest to ensure that one of her master's…Trainer's!...balls would never catch him. And she was here, tanking for him, to ensure that her master was never hurt. Oh how she wished she could join her brother here!
No, she knew she would be outclassed by the others. All of them, except maybe the Ninetales, could defeat her easily. She hadn't even noticed she was being attacked by her brother now. His attacks never hurt. And if he did any damage at all he immediately healed it up.
Her master hadn't even used her Mega-Evolution yet. This was purely a battle between siblings, with just her growth on her side. She didn't even need to try to weaken him, just one attack and her master…Trainer! had told her to stop attacking and focus on taking the hits.
But that still left her with the major question; why was he resisting! Did he not trust his own judgment from so long ago? Did he not trust her judgment? She had given herself to her mast-Trainer!- willingly, with no capture needed. But her brother did not see to do the same? Did he truly find her Trainer so repulsive that he felt the need to test him? Why couldn't they just talk this out? This would be so simple if he simply shared what he was thinking!
And her mind opened up as she felt a touch on her mind from her current 'opponent'. No words, as would be common for them. Instead, only emotion was sent. Carelessness, loneliness…all of them bounced in her mind. But the biggest one that stood out was his love. Even now, after he had retreated back to his own, she felt the tinge of it, such was the strength.
He didn't want to fight either, but felt that something was worth defending. She frowned in her own mind. Did that mean that her brother, her own brother!, did not trust her with all the secrets of this place? No, that couldn't be it. Unless her brother was hiding something from her, but why would he do that?
She heard her Trainer growl in the back, throwing another orb at her brother, only to see him burst out again. She thrust everything she could into a single message, and sent it with all of her growing mental strength towards her counterpart. Her other half.
'Everything will be ok.'
Her brother stared at her for a bit, before shedding a single near invisible tear down his cheek. She knew what he was worried about. Worried that despite belonging to the same, they would never again be able to meet, to play, to talk, to simply be there. Even if she had to force her Trainer to do it, she would. And the others would back her up.
He didn't break out of the orb this next time. Her trainer recorded the contents on the machine as he did to her when she first joined, and had him sent off again to where all new captured ones were kept.
"Well then, Latias…that was a bit too easy. We'll just have to train him up, now won't we?"
Yes, yes they would. And everything would be exactly the way it should be, for her Tra…for her Master.
I hope it ended on a "positive" note. Thank you for reading.
