A/N: Okay! A day late, but did you really expect anything less? My plan is to update somewhere between every 2 weeks to once a month. I'm trying to not burn out again so I think this schedule will work. Chapter 2 has already been written, so right now I'm ahead. If I can stay that way, this should all work out. Now for something I haven't typed in years:
I, in no way, own X-Men Evolution.
A/N 2: I swear I've forgotten how fanfiction works. I've had to reupload 3 different times because I forgot how the page breaks work. *Face palm* Let me know if anything else is wonky.
Enjoy. :)
"Here Kitty, Kitty."
No. Don't look. It's only real if you look.
The cold wall beneath my hand is the only indicator of where I'm going. It doesn't really matter where I end up, just as long as it's away from here. Somewhere behind me is the sound of footsteps. I'm not alone in here. But I already knew that. I can't remember the last time I knew for certain that I was alone.
I can't see whoever is following me; I can only hear them. They sound so close that if I stop walking I would probably be able to hear them breathe. But I don't dare stop.
"What's wrong? Kitty doesn't want to play?"
Not with you.
My hand reaches empty space and I turn down the new hallway. There's a faint light at the end of the hallway, possibly coming from outside.
Outside?
I stumble a little before breaking into a run. I get about halfway down the hallway before whatever has been following me pulls my legs out from under me. I claw at the ground desperately trying to get away, to get back up and make it to the door. I'm screaming.
"No! No! Get off! Help!"
He grabs a handful of my hair and jerks my head back before roughly slamming my face into the ground with a sickening crack.
I feel his hot breath on my neck, just below my ear.
"Bad Kitty."
Warm tears slide down my cheeks as I feel him drag me back into the darkness by my feet. At the end of the hallway I can hear someone pounding on the metal door. I can hear whoever it is calling out my name, but I'm too weak to respond.
"Kitty! Kitty!" The desperate screaming sounds familiar, but the wound to my head is distorting it so that I can't recognize it. I barely feeling the ground sliding beneath me as the darkness finally overtakes me.
"Kitty! Oh for the love of- would you wake up already!?" I have a second to register Kurt's voice before I'm whacked in the head with a pillow.
"Kurt! Oh my gosh, I'm already-
*Thwack!*
I look up at Kurt's sheepish face, preparing to yell at him some more, when I notice he's in his battle uniform.
"Kurt, why-"
"Kitty there's no time! The Brotherhood are attacking the airport. Hurry up and get dressed so we can go! Hurry!" He teleported away leaving behind smoke and the faint taste of sulfur.
*Cough*Cough*
"Thanks Kurt. Nothing better than a big serving of lung cancer, like, first thing in the morning. Why can't the brotherhood ever just take a day off?"
Say what you want about getting up early on a Saturday for a battle, but it's hard not to like the X-Jet. The sleek, black exterior gives off such a menacing presence that I'd hate to be one of our enemies. As always, Scott's sitting up front with Jean giving the same orders to everyone that he always gives. I suppose since we're on a mission I should think of them as Cyclops and, well, still Jean. Why doesn't she have a code name? Anyway, he and Jean will deal with the direct combat, while Rogue tries to sneak up on them and take them out one by one. Nightcrawler and I are to focus on rescuing as many people as possible. Easy enough.
"Nightcrawler, down the road from the airport, there's a pretty big park, teleport everyone you can there. Shadowcat, we already know Wanda is there, so there's bound to be a few planes getting thrown around. Make sure no one gets crushed beneath one of them. We're closing in on the airport now and- what the hell?"
The change of tone in Scott's voice quickly caught everyone's attention. We all looked out though our windows and what he saw quickly became apparent.
An enormous military jet was halted on the runway, surrounded by abandoned military trucks and unconscious soldiers whose bodies littered the ground nearby while a few especially tough ones continued firing as Blob charged at them.
"Well that explains what they're after."
"This doesn't change anything guys. We stick to the original plan. The people have to come first. Understood?" We all nodded in confirmation. "Good. Then I'm taking us down."
